Help! Nut holding on the gears...

I'm trying to remove the top and bottom gear to put on new 20/46 gearing with a new chain. I can't get the nuts that hold on the gears off for the life of me. If I crank on it any harder I'm afraid I'm going to break something.

Am I missing something here? Are these reverse threaded...? How do you guys get these off? Help!

Not left handed thread. Should just come off. There isn't a cotter pin or anything. I have had mine off lots of times, never had a issue. Could hold the brake with one hand and loosen the nuts with the other.

I am not exaggerating when I say that I was actually starting to lift up the sled because I was pulling up so hard up on the wrench. Going to try heating up the bolt a bit tomorrow to see if that helps.
