Help! My assault likes to flip over backwards

Somewhere between too dumb to quit and flat earth
Has anyone played wiht the suspension on the assault? It works great for jumping and playing, but when ever i get in some serius climbs, all it wants to do is wheelie? I literaly flipped it upside down climbing the other day. It is far to wild to go in some of the nasty spots i like to get into.

Maybe i am just spoiled from running an ez-ryde for a few years....but DAMN... this thing is crazy. I was just wondering if anyone else has tackled this problem on the pro rmk/assault? A Turbo assault on a stock suspension with the stock track would be a wild SOB.

Don't have one personally, but is the suspension set up for your weight? I would imagine the new style of suspension would be especially sensitive to these types of adjustments...just a thought.

i'd loosen the front skid shock a little and tighten the rear skid shock. i have found for guys over 200 pounds just a little bit of time adjusting the skid will make a HUGE difference on how the sled feels. saw someone on here had a setup to couple the skid, but that was for turbo apps. this would cure your problem but take a lot of the fun out of the sled...

The assault skids sre mounted in the lower hole on your front skid mount, you'll notice that there are two holes but the lower is drilled out on the assault but the upper one is drilled out on the RMK. A friend of mine moved his up on his assault which helped a bunch with the ski lift.

i was having the same problem. i tightened the rear shock and then tightened the front shock so that about 1 inch of threads were showing at the bottom. HUGE difference. i weight 175. wheelies over the bumps but gets back flat on steep climbs so no trenching. fun factor went up 100 %:face-icon-small-hap

Sorry, but none of the spring adjusting i have done has changed anything. I have to have the rear spring set very stiff (i am about 230 pounds fully dreased out wiht my backpack and all) and i jump alot. I am VERY hard on the sled, and i still bottom it out now and again.

I need to relocate something, and i don't realy feel like remounting hte skid. It looks like i can adjust the rear scisser arm (coming off the back of the shock at the rear of the suspension) forwards or backwards. I can also relocate where hte rear track shock attaches to the front tourqe arm.

I am just wondering what thease adjustmants will do... Cough cough....mountainhorse knows...cough cough. :amen:

Maybe just less throttle?:face-icon-small-con

I am no expert at setup, I would try tightening the RTSS preload so you are about 10" or a hair under and turn the dial to full max. If it's to stiff start backing the dial down 2 clicks at a time.
It may take an hour or two, but find a spot you are bottoming out, and stay there until you get it figured out. Racing spec miata we would spend more time doing setup work than actually racing. Good luck.

Part of the problem may be the track. If it trenches in soft snow, the rear of the track is going to sink and cause a wheelie, regardless of the spring settings. Imagine the suspension not even compressing and the track trenching-it's going to wheelie.

For the stock skid... I'd call up Chris Kasel at Carls Cycles AND/OR... Holz Racing and see what they have to say.

I think that the Zolinger Bros have worked with the stock skid as well for some of their Polaris RMSHA riders that have to run the stock skid. Those guys know what they are doing when it comes to hucking and climbing and plain punishing sleds.

Relocating parts... doesn't sound good to me... Not unless you know what you are doing. Cough cough....bent parts???

I'm sure that F-Bomb or Oberti can shed some light on this for you from their perspective.

Relocate the FTA in the other holes as mentioned. Not sure what the Assulkt has this year for a limiter strap or if it has one (My PRO RMK does not) but you could tightne that up as well, or instead of FTA relocate.
\
x2 for ELI, it is what his track does....

The RMK assaults are already in the upper position which is favorable to climbing compared to the lower hole.

The stock straps are not adjustable as mentioned above... but that can be fixed easily with a phone call to timbersled or Holz for their straps which will fit right on and be adjustable....Though you loose suspension travel and gain steering effort when this is done.

I agree that, with this track... in soft snow... that Pre load settings on the RTS may be counter-intuitive.

It climbs on hard pack ok... You still have to be careful about it. It hooks up great, and i added soem track screws to the center lugs so it hooks up on icey snow/logs, rocks ETC.

My problem is that i will be climbing a hill in deep powder and then all of a sudden i catch a bit of traction, then im standing strait in the air and it is just a bad situation. Once you stand the sled strait up and down, you lost a lot of performance that you will not put down on the hill. From then on out you are trenching and or wheelieing more till you turn out.

Yes, this track likes to trench, but i realy do feal like i need more ski preassure. I might go out for an houre or so today. i will mess with the front transfer and see what i can come up with.

I have posted about this on several threads, and I beleive I even started a thread on this topic about Ski Lift on the Assaults....

Drill out the upper holes for the front skid mount as pictured in MountainHorse's post...It has changed my life...

I am 250lbs, and I am running the 5.1 (my dealer swapped it out)...but NO spring load changs fixed the problem...so I took a scribe, poked a point where I wanted to drill, and started drilling. I used a POS cordless drill and just kept upping bit size until I was there......Honestly it was a 45 minute job and COMPLETELY changed the ski-lift issue....

I may even retract my statement that the E-tec is out climbing the stock Pro now that mine climbs as it should...it was retarded before

some picks of the completed job....plus one that show's im gonna need it in the next day or so.....

From the factory...RMK Assaults are NOT in the upper mounting position...not sure where you got that pic from, looks as though a Polaris promo but the way they are coming from the factory as a production sled in the front skid is mounted in the lower position vs the upper on the RMK and Pro RMK...At least this is the case with mine and every other Assault I have seen in person.

I would recommend moving the front arm to the upper hole (RMK location), loosening the spring tension on the rear rail shock and use the clicker to stiffen to a desired level. This will change the entire manner of the sled, I think you will find that the sled will go through the deep stuff way better as well.

Yeah sorry, did not notice that Mountainhorse actually got that in reverse...if you read my posts you see that you need to move from lower hole to upper hole....
