HELP!!!! Lawn beetle how to get rid of them

I'm looking for a little help. I bought my first house about a month ago and with in the last few days I have notice the black bugs eating the crap out of my lawn mostly in a 12 foot ring around this spot of black dirt in the yard. I live in Minnesota and wondering if anyone has any idea what these are and how to kill them. I tried tonight some grup killer from Menerads and that seem to help. The minute I spread this stuff down and started watering the started to come out of the ground I grapped 15 or so and killed the rest and thru them in the fire. Any help would be apprecited.

It's been over 10 years since I sat in an entomology class at the U of M so I can't remember what that bug is called (as obvious as it sounds the name Black Beetle is in my head but don't quote me on that).

Home Depot sells a granular product for lawn insects (the name escapes me but it's something like "Bug Away" or something like that). Give that a shot and you should be fine. Just make sure you follow the directions on the bag.
