Help in purchasing first sled

Hi,

I posted here a couple of weeks ago and everyone was very helpful with their comments. This is a sled I am contemplating purchasing:

http://portland.craigslist.org/clc/rvs/1962582492.html

My requirements are 144 or less track, reverse, and 800 or less in size.

Thoughts? Price seems a bit high compared to the KBB.

There is also a big swap meet in Puyallup WA next month, I'm told there are lots of sleds for sale there. Should I wait and purchase one there?

Thanks.

Personally, I wouldn't require reverse when looking for a sled. Other than maybe maneuvering in the parking lot, it is really not needed. I would look for a low mile 05-06 Arctic Cat M7, which can be had for $3500-$4000. I would definatley go to the snow show first, sit on a few sleds, see what feels good and fits you right. Then, after the show do some serious shopping. Here in Colorado the sleds at the show are generally overpriced.

my bro has one of those 700s with like 10000 miles on it.nice sled.smooth ride.if you want it and like it,buy it and your ready for the snow.

You wouldn't catch me a on ZX chassis. For around that price, you can find a Rev chassis. It's a huge leap forward. If you just want to sit and cruise the trail, it will work fine. Wouldn't give more than $2500.

Being this close to the snow show, I would say wait, it does sound kinda high $$$$

I would never own another sled without reverse after not having it, and now having it... you will use it way more than you think. Luckily reverse is a standard feature on the newer sleds:D

like others have said.. you could get into a rev 800 for that kinda money and it will work 10x as good and is a LOT more rideable. I am a rider forward guy throught and throught, I cant even ride the older chassis, feels like im trying to ride mine standing behind the seat. If you want to progress and really get into sledding, IMO, find a rev, and that sled you were looking at is over priced as well... or so it seems.

A friend of mine is selling his 03 doo 800 for $1300, and its setup, the guy that set it up probably does more testing than the dealer with clutching.

X2, also look for the A-arms. Rider forward is great. There are a lot of good priced sleds with fewer years. They may have more miles though. No pun intended but don't cut yourself short on track length. Keep looking with an open mind. The more you are willing to travel to pick one up the better deal you may find. (SNOWMOBILER will come down more. LOL) Also if you wait you can ride them before you buy. The M7"s are great and priced in your range. No reverse though. Good Luck.

DO A COMPRESSION CHECK! Believe me a compression check can save you a ton of $!

I purchased my Rev from a DEALER and it turned out to be blown and they wouldn't take it back...
