HELP - I'm trying to install V force reeds (part of SLP Performance Edition Kit)

Guys, I could sure use a pointer or two.

I need to install the V Force III reeds as part fo the SLP perfromance Edition package. Yes, I know the general rule is they don't give you much bang for the buck but, they were considered as part of the equation in the fuel mapping for my new Power Commander so I went ahead and bought a set (found a great deal too).

I removed the hood, I removed the airbox, I loosened the clamps between the fuel injectors assembly and the engine, I tried to pull the intake tube that goes between the airbox and the fuel injectors (what holds that on the front side of the fuel injector bodies?) but, the black plastic housing only comes forward a small distance before it gets stuck in the frame. I even read the manual and found little help. How in the world do I get access to the reeds?

Since I couldn't get access to the reeds without further guidance from you guys, I went ahead and put my engine back together. Unfortunately, that included bolting on the exhaust manifold. I think it went ok, except one bolt of the four in the center of the head does not want to come quite up to the torque specification. It's just a little shy of it but it feels like something bad is going to happen if I keep tightening. Either the bolt is starting to pull the threads out of the engine base or maybe I pinched a rubber O ring under that particular bolt and it just keeps going? Either way, I should probably take it apart and make sure all is well.

I also need to adjust the power valve cables. I believe I have the power valves back together correctly. I have found I sure miss having a manual (book) that I can open in the shop. I had to keep running back into the house to print more pages and now I have a stack of pages that come from 30 places throughout the manual. Tips on pwer valves?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

i would take the head back off and look at the o rings ive always put either a dab of grease or i use transmission assembley lube as for the reeds ive never done them yet but im going to do a set here ive done engine swaps and to get the boot out from behind air box out put your hand inside the the boot and work it ive used pliers to pull it as well but i dont recomend it but just wiggle it back and forth and it will come out and you will need to pull the skid plate to get to the bottom bolts on the intake boots ive heard they are a pain good luck hope this helps

Good day. I had to check my reeds last year and had the black boot out numerous times. I found it will slide right out the front but you have to give it a good hard pull and wiggle it side to side, helps if sled is in a nice warm garage.

nothing is holding the rubber boot in but watch your knuckles when pulling it out, i still have the scars, also once you get that out you have to remove the throttle bodies, make sure you disconnect the tps plug, oil linkage and the 2 water lines form the bottom side before you pull em out, once you get your stock reed cages out you will have to cut the rubber nubs off the stock boots that hold the reeds in (not sure if the instructions tell you this) so that the v force will fit, hope this helps

Thanks guys!

I was hoping to not have to unhook a bunch of stuff to do the reeds. I have done them on Yamahas before but, it was easy to remove the carb rack.

Ok, I'll proceed cautiously.

Do I really need to pull the belly pan?

no you dont need to pull the bellypan, i just used a 1/4" rachet with a small extension to get the bottom bolts, works fine
