I have been given the opportunity to build a monster of a timbersled snowbike kit. I would appreciate everyones input and ideas to help better the project. This is a thread dedicated to the build.

BIKE
2014 KTM 450 XC-W

Conversion Kit
2014 Timbersled Short Track

So plans are to build a solid permanent snow bike with a ton of power as well as many luxury unique features. We have a brand new 2014 ktm 450 xc-w in the crate and our timbersled kits arrived today.

Lets start our with power.
At this point I know we have the boondocker kit on the way and it seems thats the best way to go but has anyone ran a KMS? or a Top Secret? is that all there is for turbos for the snowbikes?

Suspension
What is the best spring rate for these machines, we seem to think around the 4.8-5.2 area depending on weight.

Aesthetically I have lots up my sleeve but one thing I am really interested in is running an SMR front fender. Ideally it won't catch in deep snow as much as the stock ones do. The problem I'm finding is that with the new triple clamp from ktm there is no SMR front fender out there with the 2 horizontal and 2 vertical mounts.

Clutching
Rekluse Core Exp 2.0? When reading an article on a kit that Boondocker had put together they mentioned running a Zstart Pro? I thought that was the "little kids" version and was'nt for the larger bike? Any experiences on the rekluse on a turbo kit? I am a bit worried it won't hold up.

my mistake. I just went threw the web site and when I check 2013 ktm all that comes up is smaller bikes so I just assumed that was going to be it for all of them. Ill call rekluse tomorrow and see if they have a z start not listed on the web site for this model

In regards to the Rekluse:

For the 13 KTM 450 you cannot use a Z-Start Pro with the DDS (Damped Diaphragm Steel) clutch system our bikes use. The Belleville washer does not allow for the Z-Start to work.

The Z-Start Pro has a higher full clamping force (closer to a full clutch lockout when engaged) than the Core EXP which is why it is more favorable in high HP environments. However, Rekluse feels that the Core EXP with the heavy wedges and springs should be able to handle the HP the Boondocker Turbo would put out. The Core EXP is more desirable since it mimics a stock clutch feel on the lever and you can feather the clutch should you need to. The Z-Start Pro is more of an In or Out clutch feel.... you are either in it or not with a very small window of play. The Core EXP has a little more adjustability than the Z-Start, but that point is nearly moot since for our application we don't need as much adjustable settings as a tight woods dirt rider.

For the turbo the Z-Start has an edge, but I wouldn't look past ordering the Core EXP at all. Call up Rekluse, tell them your situation, and they will work with you to make you happy. They have the best support of almost any company I've ever dealt with. Super awesome company.
