help a greenhorn!!!??

greetings all!! this is my first thread on Your forum!! here goes... My pal and I are planning on coming out to Togowotee for our first mountain experience, our usual riding takes place in the UP,trail and backcountry so we are very pumped to get out and ride the big stuff. My question is this..... we ride Crossfire 1000s with 1.25 studded tracks. We both have 1.5 tracks that we are planning on putting on for the trip. one is a 136 and the other a 141. Are we wasting our time with the xfires out there ??? should we rent mountain rigs??? we both ride very aggresively and enjoy pushing ourselves to try bigger and better, u know, and feel that we wouldnt ride to our abilities on a sled that isnt ours. not to mention renting is expensive. also we will bring 440 snopros for kicks... any and all input would be greatly appreciated!!!:D

When are you going out there? W/the lack of much new snow over the last month and sunny days you could prolly ride your snopros just about whereever you want, so your xfire's should be fine. I saw a # of xfire's running around when iwas there a few weeks ago. Are you staying on the "package" there? If so, call out there and get a guide set up. You can get one even if you arent on the package but its some 50/day/person rate. Youd be better off making buds with a group in the morning out in the parking lot and tagging along then buy them some drinks at days end....

Well I looked into the package at first but decided maybe to just do the room...again you know more than I. Is the package deal worth it?? Is there race gas nearby?? turns out there will probly be 4 of us if all goes well. Hooking up with some vets would be sweet. we are planning from the 26th to the 30th of march. too late???

You can usually ride well into may or even june, so the end of march is no big deal, I think they are still grooming that week.
The snow should be pretty well set up by then, but you never know.
They have had dumps of 3'+ in march and early april.

My suggestion (take it for what it's worth)
Rent long tracks (min. 144 x 2).
It would be a major shame if you drag your sleds all the way out here to find fantastic snow that you can't ride in and since you waited, there are no rental sleds.
The conditions are always a crapshoot. The snow could be concrete and a 121 w/1/4" lugs can go anywhere.

hey Ollie... that is what im afraid of.. We could fly out and rent... 300 for a roundtrip plus 200 a day for the rental...or trailer out and drop 800 or so on fuel roundtrip. it will take roughly40 hours to drive out and back.....tough call! Erocket I didnt get a pm....

tog

I live in lander/laramie, I just got back from a 4 day trip at Tog. Put the 1.5 on and go for it you will do fine, unless it snows like it did while i was there, it snowed upwards of four feet while i was there i will post some pics and vids.
