*HELP*2009 M1000 sled starts idles then dies

I have a 2009 M1000 MBRP can, BDX intake other wise motor is stock. It starts 2nd pull every time, idles for a few seconds then dies. It will run if I squirt a bit of ether in the intake but when it burns it all off it dies. Its like it gets enough fuel to start then quits pumping and dies? Do I need a new fuel pump? Would it go weak or just quit? It seems like a fuel problem any help would be great!

help.

First is test.
Couple of different ways to test. Easiest is undo the hose clamp fuel should spit out from pressure from hose.
Second is after if no fuel spits. Then pull off hose and pull see if fuel pumps.

The pump is working it spits fuel out when I pull it over. It will start every time it just dies after a few seconds... its like the pump times out after a few seconds or something?

you may want to check your fuel filter inside of your tank and the line may be kinked. also maby the vacuum it may not be getting air into the tank and sucking it back the other way did you try it without the gas cap on?

I had exact same issue, I ended up cycling the injectors with 12 volts, they will Hmm or vibrate when current is applied, after that has ran with no issues. If you have a kink in line would should hear pump whale when it runs out of gas. also your smart valves can collapse and will have similar issue. The smart valves are the fuel pick ups and filter in tank.

Not sure but a light scraping with a small screw driver will tell you if there's any buildup

I just now got a chance to mess with the sled. I put 12 volts to the injectors both clicked, blew a little air in them to make sure they weren't blocked. Still same thing sled starts 1st or 2nd pull back to back every time, runs for 2-3 seconds and dies. Then I took fuel line off tank blew air through it with injectors out and everything seemed fine good flow. Still same result starts right up then dies. Pump is defiantly working. what could this be? I'm at a loss. The sled had a push turbo on it with all power commander modules. Took it all off and returned to stock and now this... going to sell the sled ASAP but want it to be 100% for the next owner. I know this is something stupid and easy but what? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! Michael

A bad TPS can give you strange issues. You would think if you got spark and fuel it should run. Must be something with injectors and current from ecu. The other is weak spark and a bad ignition coil from the stator.

The issue I had it would start and idle fine, soon as I gave it gas it died. Then it would only run for a few seconds after starting. I put fuel in plug holes and it would run until that gas burned off, I figured that would take care of it but it did not. After I cycled injectors with current it ran fine for the whole year for that matter (400miles).

The slew will not run for more than a few seconds. Squirt a little ether in front of the breather and it runs fine until its burnt off. Could it need a flash or update? Really don't want to take it to a dealer (closest one that can work on sleds is 3hrs) a buddy has a 2007 F7 would the injectors work to eliminate that? Im guessing not?

Sounds like what mine did, I had to adjust the throttle cable. It would fire for a second too, then immediately quit. Often they get too tight from being routed differently. This is my best guess right now!!

I finally found some time to dig this thing out and work on it a bit. First thing I did was put a small 12 volt battery directly to the fuel pump using the red wire for positive and black for ground. The pump kicked on and ran just fine, I tried to start it with the battery still hooked up and it did the same thing as before. Started up ran for 1-2 seconds then died...
I noticed the black wire coming off the fuel pump had a red stripe on it so i swapped them around using the black/red wire for the hot wire and the red wire for ground and it fired first pull idled and ran like a new one! I then cut the wires thinking it had been wired backwards plunged it back in with out the battery and it started up ran for 5-6 seconds and died, now its back to running for 1-2 seconds then dies. Its almost like it isn't running the pump fast enough..??
Keep in mind it had a push turbo set up, and I'm trying to put it back to stock. I need to sell this thing but want it to be right first! any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks! Michael

give it alittle trottle

Try as stated above try giving it alittle fuel as it fires( do it right away) before it dies. sometimes I have this issue on old gas and needs alittle throttle to get passed the lean spot or cold spot. I usually give it alittle throttle when cold and it comes out of it. Just a thought to try.

I tried that and it didn't seem to make a difference. Its like it isn't getting power... but, when I have the battery hooked up and its idling the black/pink stripe (power to fuel pump on wiring harness) has power. Off the fuel pump is a black wire and a red wire, the black it positive and red is ground. seems backwards..?? the wiring harness to the ECM has a black/pink stripe which is positive and solid pink which is ground.

Thanks! Michael

So you got it hooked up different and it ran great? so you changed it and now it wont run? then change it back. Look at someone elses.

The only time it runs is when the battery is hooked up which was just temporary to see is the pump was working. I don't have anyone else to look at. There isn't an abundance of sleds let alone mountain sleds in Missouri.

I had a weird deal like you. It ended up being an injector wire had chaffed against the pipe shield and created a bare spot. The sled would start and once the pipe would warm and expand, it would contact the bare spot and ground out causing the sled to die. Luckily someone on this forum mentioned it to me and I double wrapped the wire and the sled works great.

Good luck....

throttle safety switch.

not sure if you got this solved. however when i rebuilt my m1000 this summer i had my throttle cable adjusted to tight and it would start run for a few and then die. So i had to put more slack in the throttle cable. Its an easy adjustment and worth ruling out.
