Help!!! 2003 600 sportsman electrical problem

I have a 2003 600 twin sportsman. The other day I was ridding it and it was dark so I was using the headlights and all of the sudden they went dim and then after 10 sec they went out. Now it wont start unless you short the solenoid out and when you turn the headlights on the whole dash goes blank what happened?????? Other than a no start and no lights it runs great.

More than likely a stator issue, they had problems with the 03's there is an update kit for it, comes with stator, cdi and nescessary wiring.

Not sure if this will be the problem, but check the circiut breakers under the front hood (cowling). The wife's did a simillar thing but wouldn't run. The circiut brakers were full of water and rusted. Replaced with inline fuses.
