help! 08 m8 just up and dies?

Was out riding today and a buddy's m8 just dies out of the blue. Ran perfect until sled died. It was getting late, so we had no time to test things, but it seemed as though it didn't have spark. We had to leave the sled on the hill and are going to get it tomorrow. Any ideas guys?Fuel/Electrical? Where should we go from here..its going to be extremely hard to drag it out considering where its at. How do you bypass the kill switch on these? Thanks guys!!

I have an 07 M8 with a race gas turbo on it that was having the same issue. My would die after I would be riding for a while never right off the trailer.

To test the kill switch or TPS sensor just unplug the connecter down behind the exhaust its a pretty big black connector. I also had issues with the sensor in the ECU, make sure the clear tube has no moisture in it. I am still fighting issues with the air temp sensor that goes in the air box. I have heard that those can go bad too.

Hope some of this info helps. The other thing you can check is to make sure you have fuel at your injectors. Sometimes wiggling them back and for lets alittle fuel leak out to make sure you are getting pressure.

Good Luck

Mine just did the same thing. We spent hours trying to figure it out. We called five dealer service department and tried idea they had to offer and finally after everyone gave up and one guy stayed to tow me out, it started again and I drove it around and it was pulling great RPM but it was missing often (sometime almost putting you over the bars) and then it died again.

Finally, I got towed out of the mountains and then we started running into slush while being towed across a lake and I was able to fire it up again and make to about 75 yards from shore before it died again. Thankfully we made it off the loake and it's in my covered trailer now and heading to the dealer Tuesday.

I'm pretty upset about it because it happened the first day of a four day trip to McCall Idaho. Thankfully, a kind gentleman allowed me to ride one of his sleds the other two days but, I still endured the humiliation of being towed out right through the middle of a Yamaha forum ride.

Do you have any more news on yours?

I'm the one the M8 died on... So the next morning we go back out to tow it back and after a few pulls it started but was cutting out real bad all the way back to the trailer. It would run fine at lower rpms but any time you try to open it up at all it would randomly cut out like you were turning it off and on. It also cut out at times just going over bumps on the trail. We changed the plugs and put some water remover in the tank but that didn't help, not sure where to go from here.
