Help! '05 M7 won't start

On my last ride a couple weeks ago, my M7 seemed to back-firing quite a bit and want to die at low r's. It did die at idle a couple times but always started right back up. Now all I get is one pop, and then nothing until I dry the plugs off and pull th rope again. I can get it to fire, but won't start.

It has spark, and its getting fuel because my plugs are wet. I checked my fuel pump with a 12V battery and it runs forward and reverse- no clicking, so I think the fuel pump is ok. I haven't checked my fuel pressure, may not have enough pressure.

Does the fuel pump have multiple "smart valves", and one of those is closed?

Could it be an injector failure?

I should add that I am running a RKT 800 kit with a boondocker box.

more than likely you have a short in a wire back by the tail light (right where the tunnel ends and the taillight plugs in, Ive seen it with alot of M7s including mine

easy check is to unplug the tail light wire by the brake rotor and give it a try.

I had the same problems and tore my 07 M8 apart looking for a problem, replaced the plugs (didn't look bad and had spark) and it has run perfect since.

Great, thanks guys! Those are all quick and easy checks to diagnose my problem.
I did have the famous tail light short back in '06, but found it and repaired it. Last season I added a BDX tunnel kit with an '09 flap and light so I should have good connections there. Easy to check though.

My vote is bad coil... you describe the exact problem I had with my 05.
Spark (but not enough of one)

Make sure you let us know when you solve.

unplug all your electrical from your stearing colum. My buddys did that and we desconnected all and it ran fine after that. we found a broken wire on the hand warmer. I had some issues with mine and after trying everything, it was my main harness. Replaced and issues all gone. Good luck.

I had a simillar instance just last week.
My bars were tweeked from a roll over I had the weekend before, so I set out to replace them. Note: Cat bars are a pain in the A$$!!!! After the job was done, I go to start the sled and nothing....once it does fire, it runs like a crap. Lots of sputtering, my idle was ALL OVER the place, and if I gave it gas, it would rev up, and then die on the way back down....Thankfully my Cat dealer knew exactly what it was. Of all things....it was the FRIGGIN' KILL SWITCH!!!!

The dealer told me to unplug it (the kill switch that is) down at the post, and if it runs fine after that, then that was my problem. Sure enough, it was. I'd have been there for DAYS trying to figure it out. So...maybe look there too. Disconnect that sucker and see what happens.

Ground wire

Make sure you check your ground wire. It is located underneath the coolant bottle on the backside of the bolt that holds the steering loop to the bulk head (brown wire). It is really hard to see. I had some crazy things happening and found it to be loose!
