Help! 03 1M 900 problem

3500 miles- never any issues and well maintained. Running good in 24" powder. I killed the engine for few minutes, started right up and idled, hit the gas and engine sputtered and died. Started right up and then did same thing. Let sit for 10 minutes looking for problems, suspected the throttle posistion senser, made sure no ice at the throttle pivot. Tried again, started and ran, able to haul a!# 30 miles to truck. Suspected water in fuel, added Heat, filled tank. Next day ran well for couple hours, then started again, though not quite as bad, able to get off the mountain. Now, I am suspecting fuel filter or fuel pump. Any thoughts? Thanks
 
Not sure if the ground wire from the recoil would do this but mine was completely disconnected/broken at the frame mount terminal. Not sure when it happened but if it was broke during my ride I didn't notice anything.

My 2004 900 is carbed.

I noticed it when I was removing my pipe/muffler for access to my chaincase.

That big engine has a lot of movement/vibration and the ground wire probably moves quite a bit leading to breakage.
