Went looking for a helmet for my 3 year old and have a hard time findibg some. Had a salesman tell me to use a bike helmet because they are light and wont hurt their neck. The wife and grandma were there and heard this also. wich is not good. Anybody use a bike helmet? Anybody know were to get a lightweight helmet?

I would look at ski helmets, they are warmer than bike helmets.

Only way you are going to find a "light" helmet is to go carbon fiber, but I don't think you'll find one small enough.

Found this one for my lil' 3 year old daughter. Works GREAT for her. Around 4lbs, has worn it for hours with no complaints (after she got used to it!) Its a "GMAX". Has the #46Y below the DOT label on back (part #?) Had # GM46Y on label. The goggles are SCOTT and fit perfect. Hope that might help. If you want more info...PM me and I can put you in touch with our local store where I bought it, they might be able to sell w credit card and ship?

You may want to consider a "neck donut " also to help carry the weight, at that age it's good to protect there fragile necks as well as their head, adds a little piece of mind and allows you to go a little faster through the bumps.:D

Powder, that is the cutest pic I have ever seen. You must be one proud dad. She's a doll.

I agree with 2Thetopp on the Neck protection. I had my boys wearing them in sledding and moto-x from day 1 and it was just part of their routine. Collar bones are so soft at early ages and the helmet sides can have a real impact. Saw other parents try to introduce them later on and it was a struggle.

I just got a Bob's Cycle catalog in the mail that had a great selection of kids helmets and neck protection, not to mention some cool threads. Might see soem stuff in their online as well. Good luck. EW

When the kids were small (2 / 3 / 4) i used a hockey helmet with the full face poly shield with a balaclava or light hat under for warmth. Worked great as regular helmets seemed way too heavy (even the open face style with bubble). Now that they are older, they have progressed through open face and will get motocross style for Christmas.

I have been taking my girls up since they barely 2, we have 2 regular motorcyle helmets, they use them for quads and motorcycles too. Oh I forgot one of my girls boots one time, we ended up putting on some of my socks, couple of plastic bags and a little tape. Kept us from going home!

Sure is fun having them up there starting young.

X2 on hockey hemet with clear full face protection.......lightweight, strong and can put a balaclava under......couldn't find a helmet for a 3 year old. Bridges the gap until he is 5 and will fit a motx style.

Youth helmet

Agree ...gmax good choice for child that young although i prefer the full face for convenience as kids tend to fall asleep while riding....gmax an vega are about the lightest i've found... Don't discount the ski helmet though...i started with that when my child was 3....very light ...a concern as their necks are not very strong at that age....also get a quick release buckle installed for the helmet...trust me ..it's worth it esp. On a childs helmet...also look into a child's harness....allows you to have child in front or back and you keep both hands on the bars!!!...great for 4-wheelers also....hope this helps....mike

Same kind of Helmet, weights 1.5 lbs I think.
We had a Ice skateing helmet on her till she was 4

Hey "bubbles"... How old is your lil' girl there? How many cc's in that quad? Is it twist throttle? How long has she been on it? My daughter is just 4 and wants her powerwheels quad "to go FASTER daddy!" Been looking at those small quads... BTW: CUTE PIC!
