HELMET WRAPS?

Hey everyone, I have a couple questions about HELMET WRAPS. Hope someone can help!

1. Does anyone in our industry wrap helmets?

2. Is there a clear coat put over the wrap?

3. How well do they last?

4. Anyone have any sample pics of wrapped helmets?

Thanks in advance!

JIM

The shop that does my race car wraps also does sleds and helmets.

I dont do facebook, but I know they have more pics on there FB page. I have seen helemets at his shop in person and they look awesome. He will design anything you want, and send you a design proof.

They use very high quality materal and yes, there is a clear coat layer that goes over the printed layer. The clearVinyl has this amazing feature that when it gets scuffs and scrathes in it, you can apply heat to it with a heat gun and it goes right back to a perfect shine!

Give him a call. Eric

Helmet wraps have neen around for a while.

Life expectancy depends on the adhesive and type of vinyl/ink used.

Clear coating a decal onto a helmet is as old as car pinstriping.

The PROBLEM is there is an infinite style of helmet and combinations within each style.

For instance a BV2S Style helmet comes in how many sizes? XS S M L XL XXL XXXL ... 7 sizes to one style?

Would these decal BV2S kits fit on a KLIM helmet? Not really.

My family has a printing business so the issue is how to make them cost effective?

The printing machines we have would need a run of thousands 4 each size of each style to keep them very low in price or else they will end up being the higher cost ralative to a sled wrap.

But I must say the bread and butter are labels for stuff like a spray bottle or a gallon of windshield washer fluid ... so I am sure there is a company willing to try and make $$$$$$$ on a helmet wrap.

The place I listed requires the helmet sent into them. They take exact mesurements of it and every design is one of a kind. Its not cheap at all, a full coverage wrap takes around 3 hours just to install and total price is in the 250-350 range. Eric

I could see how they make a rubberized skin for the helmet and have the material shrink wrap to the helmet.

But then I could see any patterns "deform" from the shrink wrap process and also have air gaps on any concave surfaces.

The air gaps on any concave surfaces may vibrate with wind / tear / fill with snow or water.

If you want a perfect transfer for any helmet, look into HYDRO-DIPPING or WATER TRANSFER.

Any image that can be PRINTED can be transferred.

Here is an example of how it is done.

I saw that process a couple times .... How does the EPA like it?

I have a feeling that takes a lot more practice than what first meets the eye.

More of the Pro riders should have painted or wrapped helmets in the sledding world. Your helmet is your "face" to everyone that watches you race or ride. Race car drivers learned a long time ago to get a design and stick to it as best your can. At least some major element of your design should be carried on with each upgrade to the helmets look. Racers have their helmets painted not wrapped though and it costs a lot. That is how Troy Lee got his start I believe, or at least it played a huge role in his success. I had helmets done by a place called BLOWSION and they did fantastic work. The idea of a wrap sounds a lot better for the price though. My last helmet was almost a grand to paint.

Jim, we do helmet wraps that match our sled wraps. You can check out our Pro Rider Ashley Chaffin's photos in the new SledHeads mag and see. Give us a call if you're interested. Toyskinz.com

uh..the helmet wrap is a good idea. I'm surprised they are not more wrap companies marketing it. I am sure anyone one of them will do it. I googled it and found this company that looks pretty good.

I raced cars professionally and always had expensive paint jobs but never thought it was worth doing my sled helmets because they always get thrashed. However, paying a $100 for a wrap would be worth it.

Concerning painted helmets, Censport in Boise does some of the best work, just fyi...http://www.censportgfx.com/index.html
