Hello All! (Thinking about a move)

So I'm new to the SnoWest forums and just wanted to say what's up! Anyways I chose this particular forum to write in because I am graduating at the end of this summer and I just can't shake this adventurous feeling I have of extending my trail sled, setting it up for the deep stuff, taking all my worldly posessions, and moving to Colorado. I'll have plenty of money to get situated and find a job but I have no idea what this place is like. I am thinking about Denver buuuuut....how far will i need to trailer to make it to the deep stuff and the really good riding? Where is a good place for a 24 year old to live? I will have a marketing degree with a minor in biz management so I would also like to put that to work while snowmobiling and snowboarding the deep powder on the weekends. Also during the summer I am an avid mountain biker and i hear that colorado has some of the best in the world.

Come on out Brother! It's all good around Denver. It's cheaper to the south and north. I live in Berthoud, about 60 miles north of Denver. The Snowies is 2.5 away. Rabbit Ears 3. Vail Pass 2. If you move south of Denver, toward Colorado Springs or Pueblo, there's lot's of good riding with in a couple of hours of there too. From where I live, I have four mountain bike loops about 15 minutes from the house! There's alot of growing businesses in Loveland and Fort Collins for ya to check out as well. Any Q's let me know.

what kind of work experience do you have?

I lived in denver last year and now live in Lakewood, 6 miles out of Denver. I ride every weekend. I70 sucks so i now head down 285 more. Plenty of good peeps out here. I moved here 2 years ago from NYC. Love it and will never leave.

BTW. Plenty of mtn biking 15 min from my house.

Ive got Sales and management experience, managed a crew at Taylor Rental for 4 years and sold cars for six months, did well in both fields. Hopefully with my degree and experience I can do more! Even so I feel that if I don't have the best job in the world atleast I can do what I love on the weekends!

It seems that all the living is slightly cheaper than home (my apartment in Manchester, NH). I've been checking out apartments on craigslist. Many in Golden. I still really know nothing about the area but I plan on coming for a visit to do some research for atleast a week this summer. Think I can stowe my mtn bike in the overhead compartment? lol. Also I will try and lock down a job before moving....even if I have to sell cars again I will do it untill something better comes along, I know I can pay the bills doing that.

Anywhere on the Front Range is going to get what you want........

job opportunites

relatively close to sledding/snowboarding

access to single track bike trails

close enough to populated areas so you can enjoy some nitelife

Just how far are we talking? I'm such a NewB when it comes to this state! Also want a good area to meet woman seeing as I'm single now and will be keeping it that way untill I get out there...

check out coloradosledcity.com or sledmods.com

These sites will show you just some of the trailheads in relation to Denver and the surrounding Front Range areas

Depending on exactly where you settle it could be anywhere from 1-3 hours to many good spots.

If your a diehard and only care about sledding and the outdoors move as high into the mountains as possible. If you are looking for a little balance between the other things I mentioned then the Front Range areas should serve you well.

If you are looking to be in the middle of it, check out the Summit/Eagle county areas as well. I would be more than happy to help guide you through the interview process with Vail Resorts, as I was with their HR dept for almost 5 years. PM me if you need info-

Moved here sight unseen in 2000 and lovin every minute, can't imagine livin' anywhere else... I live in Colorado Springs, cheaper living, 3.5 hours from Rabbit Ears Pass, 3.5 hours Wolf Creek Pass probably some of the best snow in the state, of course a lot more riding closer than that. 15 minutes to some awsome mountain biking, drop me a note if you would like a tour...
Denver would probably fit a (single?) 24 year old... Good luck!!! :beer;

This is awesome, you guys have been more than helpful! The more I think about this, the more excited I become! I'm really into the idea of living in a totally different area and just trying to make my way into a successful position. And like I said be4, I can do what I love on the weekends, than taking the necessary steps to climb the job ladder won't be as bad!

Grand Junction has what your looking for. Deep Pow 50 minutes away and you can ride some of the worlds best Mnt Bike trails from your door.

Def got to check out grand junction! After talking with my folks it seems that this idea of moving is becoming more and more a reality. I am planning a trip in July, probably take about ten days to check out a few of the locations mentioned here in this thread. I am most certainly going to look into opportunities at some of the surrounding ski-resorts I am hoping an eastern mountain boy like myself will be able to fit the mold at one of these larger resorts. Also you think it would be cheaper to ship my mountain bike rather than try to get it on the airplane?

it will be cheaper to ship the bike. Then tr and get it on the plane. :)

As for resorts, I would do either Vail Resorts, intrawest or Aspen Ski company. They are the big 3 in the state.

Vail Resorts mountains
Breckenridge, keystone, vail, beaver creek
Intrawest mountains
Copper and Winter Park
Aspen Ski Company Mountains
Snowmass, Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk

So I'm heading to Quebec Thursday till Monday for a little saddlebag excursion....should be pretty good seeing how they have goptten three feet of snow in the past two weeks, some of the areas I will be riding through will have more than 7 feet! Not bad for the East eh? Anyways jw if any of my new Colorado buddies will want to see some of the pics of my trip....should be some good powder! Let me know if its kosher to post Quebec pics in your Colorado forum!
