A heli-coil or similar thread insert is also a great way to increase the strength of a thred that sees lots of stress or is in soft material ( aluminum ) By simply increasing the surface area. I use them all the time in My biz.

Do you use a retaining compound like loctite to hold the heli-coil in when installing. I have been using some on the last few engines that I needed to use heli-coils

cant hurt ! worst case you could grab the coil and pull it out

I've always used red loctite on helicoils.
