Heated grips advice

Hi,

Can you recommend some good heated grips for my snow bike? It is for a KTM 500 exc-f, 2017

We are putting up the snow bike as we speak and the dealer has some grips but very thick …. I would prefer same size as originals if such heated grips even exists. Anything good out there to look at?

Thanks.

Spend the money and buy the raze motorsports heated bars! If you don’t already have a thermostat you will be buying one and the raze kit comes with a thermo included. Much nicer than the electric heated grips in my opinion. I’ve now had both and love the raze bars. Quality fit and finish to boot!

Raze bars are the premium setup. If you don't want to go all the way, the AME grips are the most dirt bike grip like we have found. As stated above they are similar to the ODI Lock On grips.

I'm going to give FXR heated gloves a try, battery lasts 5 hrs, and the way I see it they won't be on all the time like on a sled !
I have them for my wife with heated grips... Not super impressed with them.. no way you get 5 hours even on low ..... To feel them you need at least medium.. so 2.5 hours or so ..

These are what we use:

Easy install- work amazing (I rarely even use the HI setting), and a fair price. Best of all, install your favorite grips right over the top. I have them on my 300 in the dirt too and it’s so nice on those chilly mornings and evenings I won’t go without now!

If you go the electric route tap into a DC power source from the stator, not the battery, so you don’t run the risk of accidentally draining your battery if you leave them on.

I’ve used thin stick on cork under the elements on my Snomobiles and it improves them 100% How ever not sure how it will work on the twist grip side. Have yet to do mine will this week. Don’t see any reason why not

I've always been kinda paranoid to order and try those type because I know how difficult it is to install grips by themselves, let alone with the additional girth of heating coils underneath.

I just had a thought though, I wonder how these would work with the newer clamp on style grips everyone is coming out with??

I bought a set of Oxford Touring grips (because the Touring is the narrowest and closest to stock KTM width grips) install on my 15 KTM 500 EXC, but I haven't installed them yet.

Having seen your post I'm very tempted to go this route because I wouldn't have to contend with the thicker, more street oriented Oxford grips.

Do you think these Symtec type would fit well under clamp on grips?

I used spray foam inside the bars to help insulate a little better so that the heat didn’t get drawn away as bad. I’m not sure on its effectiveness but the elements get plenty hot- I rarely leave them on hi.

I don’t have any experience with the lock-on grips so I couldn’t vouch for fitment.

Installing regular moto grips over these isn’t bad. I actually just used isopropyl alcohol to slide the grips on, it evaporated and leaves a snug fit over the elements that doesn’t move.

The lock grips are really nice , probably better than a majority of glue jobs . Simple clean and adjustable if you realized you don't like the way the wires are routed .
The twist like many aftermarkets may have a bit of slop that can not be adjusted out . If you have that problem a finishing nail works perfect in the twist cam stop . Kind of self explanatory when you can't adjust the cable slack out and take a good look at the cam throw of the twist .

I did Oxford on my 13' XCW 500 and they turned out pretty nice. Note: The controller on the back side of the number plate (5 levels, auto shut-off for low battery). No rideable snow in MN yet where I live so the only testing has been in the garage, but they seem like a good option.

Heated grips

Oxfords work very well . Little larger diameters but used on four different Ktm snowbikes so far. Hooked up to ignition wire so bike must be running or grips have no power source. Bake my hands at -15 f.

I hate the fat heated grips as well, so I never bother with any type of heat grip on the bike .

Have skins soft snow and wind deflectors over the Moose bark busters and use good Gloves ( henstra leather ski gloves ) they are perfectly shaped to grip the bars and are nice and warm. One interesting side note -- without heated grips my gloves never get wet inside. The deflectors are the key here.
And if it is stupid cold i just ride the sled:face-icon-small-win

heated grips

Ame grips! They are odi lock on grips.

great bang for the buck. bought a set 2 seasons ago. easy install and removal. this year, for whatever reason, they wouldn't heat up. called them up and a few days later had a brand new set at no charge just needed to ship the old ones back. on point customer service.

Not sure what brand my heated grips are. Six different power levels but kind of a pain to switch with gloves on. Also, they completely shut off when I kill the motor. Good for battery life but a PIA to have to go to the setting that I want each time. I wish that they would come back to the setting that I had them on when I start the bike again.

It had already been said that some don't like the larger grip/thicker grip(sorry for all those smaller-handed folk like Donald Trump) but the cheap, $40 Bikemaster heated grips have been fantastic.

I did get a spare set of handlbars so that when I go back to dirt I don't have to worry about damaging the grips at all.

The grips have good grip. They fit over my G2 aluminum throttle tube with a quick turn cam and a jimmy twister for a smooooooth and fast throttle twist-I can never go back to a regular turn throttle after using the quick turn-none of thost limp-wristed throttle tamers for me, no sir. Give it all to me and give it all to me really good.

The heat is incredible as there are 5 levels of heat. I'm glad as I was able to use a fuse tap so that the grips go off with the bike but they always need to be turned on but when turned on they default to the setting they were on before the bike was turned on. Install is super easy and as they are so cheap, if they stop working a new set is only $40. I expect they will be going for a while though.
