heated Carbs, advantages ???

I have a 00 800 summit and I noticed that in 2002 they came out with heated carbs.

Does anyone know if there is an advantage using these carbs??

Better throttle response maybe. ???:light:

In my opinion They are only good whan it is really cold out and your carbs freeze up. As long as your playing, You dont need them as the motor compartment stays warm enough. If you leave them on for a little while, the sleds start acting weird and running bad. I always delet mine first thing for easier removal of the carbs.

good point. Fortunately , on the wet warm west coast it does not get that cold.

I can see how removing them with coolant spewing out wouold be a pia.

thanks for the info.:present:

But! if you can get 03' or later, they went to hooded needle jets, better fuel atomization and a few more hp, although I'm still running non-hooded and I haven't had any issues aside from just having to fatten it up a bit.

no advantage all they do is cause issues to people who dont know, it has to get like -40 for the carbs to freeze, & if your working the throttle & makeing the engine work the carbs can't freeze, & if you forget about them, they make the sled a pig to start & they use feul big time whenm on, i would delete it if you got them

I have used mine three or four times, If I had not had them I would have been hosed. Usually around 0 F.

Take the plumbing for the heater lines off and toss em, makes it easier to work on carbs. If there's any issue with cold weather, throw a bottle of iso-heat in the gas.
Opening heater lines can make motor run rich and blubbery.

The posts about "As long as your riding - freezing aint an issue" is kinda wrong IMO.

I say "kinda" b/c I haven't had my flatslides frost up except when riding at -30*. Then it sure was nice to be able to just turn that knob. -30* is really no time to have mech issues if you can help it!

Round slides tho freeze up much easier from my experience. And it can be a bigger deal as to the snow and riding conditions as well. LOTS of dry powder will play a roll in freezing them up.

If you've never experienced frozen carbs - the effect is the slide sticking OPEN. It prolly does stick closed, but you have plenty of throttle pull to move it, but the springs get so they might not close it - or not close it all the way. (1/2 open not uncommon.)

On round slides it would be more of an annoyance as only one carb wuold really stick, and when you let off it would only power-on on one cyl, so you could hold it back reasonably easy and generally keep flipping the throttle to get it to come out of it. But in more extreem cases the easiest thing to doo would be to just shut it off and let the heat from the motor come back out to thaw the carb(s).

On flatslides (assuming rack mount) if one sticks - EVERYBODY sticks! However I haven't had that happen yet. Mine on ly started to run poorly and not idle. I opened the valve and it came right out of it!

If you only ride on "nice" days close to home, your likely not gunna need it. If you usually "take trips" and are gunna ride whatever Mother Nature hands out that weeeknd - the heaters are a swell deal.

Again, dump a bottle of Iso-Heet in every time you refuel, never had a problem this way.Should just be a fact of life when riding.
