Heat cycling

New sled-new engine going to trade at the end of year= Ride it maybe a little more gentle for awhile or follow break in.
New sled- new engine- going to keep this sled awhile- heat cycle
Newer sled-Just replaced jugs, pistons, bottom end or motor I put together=Heat cycle.
Old Sled- Just replaced jugs, pistons, bottom end or motor I put together-Send it, if it blows, it was just not to be.

anybody have any data that backs up the need to heat cycle? sounds like an old wives tale.
It’s definitely an old wives tale.

Just run it.

I’ve seen a handful premature failures and exactly zero of them would have been prevented by “heat cycles”

Cold siezure is just that don’t hammer it until it’s warm.

If there’s something wrong with the mechanical parts it won’t go away with heat cycles……..

I'd heat cycle it once on a new build. Just make sure nothing is unhappy.
I had 1 seize at idle that I'm sure would have been more destructive at WOT. Ring gap was bad, and my dumbass just threw it together since "it's a kit, it'll fit!". Damn right I check ring gaps and measure the pistons and cylinders no matter what now.

After 1 good start and cool, it's just let it warm up and smash the throttle.
