New to yamaha and wondering if head shims are needed to run 12psi on pump fuel? sled is 06 apex running MCX rear mount.
heam shims needed?

How good is your pump gas in your area. Our best premium is only 90 octane and its questionable then so i use headshim regardless. Its worth the extra time of install if you ask me, plus if you have it in then you can always turn up he boost alittle more and still be safe.
On an apex, no doubt the head shim should be installed. That machine has no problem bringing up the bottom end on its own. Thats the whole reason why you might not install a head shim and in the phazers case at 8-12k feet it falls flat on its face if you try to get back on the throttle if you have released it. So to eliminate a wide open throttle band the head shim was removed, mcx even has a fuel box remap for such a situation.
