Health Care in Canada versus U.S.A.

Hey guys,

I watched the movie Sicko last month. I know that Michael Moor is the biggest liberal (I don't even capitalize that word because I don't feel it is worthy enough LOL), but he does bring up several valid points about health care.

How come America cannot come up with a health care system like Canada did?

I asked a friend of mine that lives in Red Deer, Alberta (I think that is where it is), and she said that she loves Canada's health care system. Canadians, please let me know if I am wrong when I say that Canada's health care system is great.

Check this out, yes it is pbs. It has some pretty good info about the good and bad issues with different health care systems around the world.

Cause everybody is still sold that we have the best healthcare and modern medicine in the world. But nobody looks at the fact that the service and cost and the number of people who can't use it or afford it. Politicians told us once ask a Canadian how long they have to wait for service. My question to Canadians is "Have you ever seen a Canadian Struggle with medical bills or file bankrupcy due to medical bills?"

you may not struggle with or lose everything over the bills here...... but you may end up losing everything due to not being able to work while waiting on required surgery.

It may be covered..... but there is a waiting list. I'll go across the border when I need something major done..... Paying and getting it done right away is better IMO!

My sister and her husband have lived and worked in Burnaby, BC. since 2000. I am not sure if being an American affected the quality of medical service she recieved, but she flat out refuses to use Canada's medical system now, always comes to the states. However, I personally know two people who went north for Lasik eye surgery when it first became popular. They have nothing but good things to say about their experience.

OK, give me one valid point Mr. Moore makes about healthcare.

You say there are several, I say Mr. Moore has no clue what he's talking about...... and there you have it, an argument going nowhere fast...:)

How come America cannot come up with a health care system like Canada did? LOOK AT IMSICK'S COMMENT AND THEN ASK YOURSELF, WHY WOULD WE WANT TOO?

There is always good and bad. Most people have disability insurance through their employer if you can't work.

If you need treatment, you will get in. It is not like you have to wait 6 months for a triple bypass or something. Hip replacements could take a few months, and if you want to pay, you can go south and get it done.

My nephew had a baby girl last year. She was born with blood ingested in her lungs and could not breath on her own. She had to be put on a respirator, and have tubes sticking out of her mouth, and have machines monitoring her to live. She needed a full time nurse with her for 3 weeks until she was able to breath on her own and go home.
If it wasn't for health care, my nephew would have had to foot a 500,000$ medical bill. Swallow that.

I pay 35 bucks a month to have health care, and I will gladly pay it.

I saw sicko, and it was interesting about Cuba, and their system.

my wife works in a newborn intensive care unit....most babies born with huge issues end up being paid for by the state.....my wife is also canadian, and we have many relatives in both countries....my canadian relatives, have doctors on retainers (personal money) so that when they have need of medical services they don't have to rely on the (wonderful-not) health care system in canada....and if it's a serious situation, they head south......so anyone who thinks that a free (socialized system) is best...think again....there's something about incentives that make people and systems work better...but we all know that

There is a severe doctor shortage here. That means people do not have a family doctor so every little thing gets them out to the emergency room. So if you do happen to have an emergency you get to wait for several hours to see someone. Oh and anyone who thinks our health care system is free needs to get their head outta their butt. All that GST that we have been payin since that wanker Mulrooney decided we weren't taxed enuf, goes to pay for our "free" system.

Ya, no kidding.

Free?

Look at the sin taxes we pay up here. You won't find a dozen cold beer off-sale for less than $24. Cigarettes at over $12 a pack.

Guess where that money goes?
