Headlights on 95 XLT

The output on the lights is very dim.........occasionally it will brighting up but its random and at random RPMS.

Went through the manual and tested output off the stator........yellow and brown wires had decent output 15-18 and as rpm goes up just over 20.

Checked voltage at regulator and voltage seemed low 2-5 volts. Its really hard to test the yellow wire here because the fitting is so tight. Also real handy that you have to suck exhaust the entire time trying to test.

I think i need a new regulator? Looks like good output off stator but weak at regulator. My past experience was either the regulator worked or it failed and it would pop all your bulbs?

Thoughts on this electrical mystery?

PS Kids are loving there first sled just annoying to have no lights!

I am thinking some kind of bad grounding issue somewhere. How do the hot grips work? Or taillight? Frayed wires? Give all curcuits a good inspection. 550iq

grips seem to be working but not super hot.

might just start with swapping in a new regulator.

I agree. We've had these issues in the past (and present) and usually they we a result of frayed wires and such. And more times than not, very easy to fix. Good hunting. 550iq
