Headlight & Display out after VR Replaement

My 09 D8 RMK just had the VR replaced and now the headlight & instrument display are out but if I unplug unplug the electrical connector with the 3 small orange wires to the ECU all of the lights work ok.

If anyone has any info that would be great. Thanks

Dang, these things are just an electrical nightmare.

I need to look at my wiring schematics and see how the ECU is tied into the display and lights. Otherwise, possibly the chassis power relay being screwy.

Can you test the Orange and Yellow wires for both Vac, and Vdc?

I'm affraid the VR's are sending Vac into the ECU via Orange wires.

Just replied to the other thread on this.. Is the chasis power relay AKA the capacitor is what we're thinking. It seems the charge is not being held and causing the power outages, but no ignition problems. What do you think. My first sled in 20+ years kinda pissed that Polaris can't or won't dig into it and let us know, whta the root cause. All problems sound similar. Sled has been at the dealer 1 week and 1day, they haven't gotten to it yet:face-icon-small-fro

Got me new VR. done a little testing, but will create a thread with all my #'s tomorrow when I get a little more time.

So far the only real difference i'm finding from the one I pulled out, to the new one, is resistance of the Yellow wires, and Orange wires. New one almost 3 times the resistance.

Really wishing I would of tested the VR before I rode the sled to see how it tested # wise.

I'm still leaning towards Vac getting through to the ECU via Orange wires...

VR BURNED UP ECU

After my VR failed and before it burned up my ecu, I unplugged the 3 orange wires from the VR to the ecu and the sled ran fine and all of the lights and gauges worked fine. The ecu did not smell burned and the back of it was bot bubbled or distorted from being hot.

When the new VR was installed the sled still did not have lights ar the dash display working. After switching the headlight from low beam to high beam the sled stalled and the top of the ecu got very hot and it was then burned up.

Your new VR just burned up? Or the ECU burned up after the new VR?

xc6,

I believe it was damaged from the old VR failure but it didnt burn up until after the new VR was installed and ran for some reason and then only after I flipped on the high beam headlight even though the lights were not working but when I switched it on the light all came on and then 2 seconds later the sled stalled.

The only good news is that Polaris did warranty both the items with no deductible when I was out of warranty.
