Thinking about doing my own headlight delete, especially after taking the hood off and realizing how much these things weigh. I tried to find how much the headlights actually weigh, but couldnt find it anywhere. I think between the headlight delete and a light aftermarket can one could easily be looking at a 15-20 lbs weight savings. thoughts?

Multiple Threads

Do a search in this Forum for "Headlight Delete". There are multiple threads and a few are at length. VERY good information is discussed on the delete of a headlight on the pro. A issue is that some are experiencing issues with frying the ecm. Others aren't having the issue, others are installing resistors...etc.

It's alot to absorb and take in when you start reading it, but if you don't have any extra load on the electrical system (AFR, EGT's, Turbo oil pump) etc, it seems like your odds increase for ecm failure.

I have a turbo system and extra gauges on my sled and I'm still debating on doing the delete for the weight savings and the fact I never ride at night.

Yeah, Ive been reading up on the possible electical issue. I was thinking about installing some extra "halo" lights that I have which would take some of the electrical load, but not much.

3lbs huh, I thought it'd be more then that for some reason. Its odd that there is SOOOOOO much technical info on the headlight delete, yet near nothing on the actual weight savings, though I understand a lot of it is venting as well.

My advice- Don't waste your time or money with it. I ran one last year, after you get your aftermarket light, lead dog, or whatever it may be, and your resistor on your sled I would say you are definitely looking at a weight loss of under 3lbs. I ran the skinz delete, I think that was like $50, and by the time you get some other type of lighting and a resistor (only needed on the 13' and newer) you are $200 or more into it and its just a pain not having real headlights if you end up being out at night. Im pulling my delete this year and putting the stock headlights back in.

Good advice, I think that since I cant ride my sled, Im looking for any excuse to screw around with it lol. Might just install the halos inside the stock lights ;)

Mtn Fit Hoods has a direct plug and play headlight delete with LED light installed. Saves weight and gives a place for the hot rising air to escape. Check them out!

I have that kit on my M series hood and gotta say the quality looks really good and definitely will get the job done as far as venting. Wont have a chance to actually plug them into the sled and start it up for another few weeks likely, really curious to see how bright they are, heard good things.
