Heading to Colorado in Jan.

A buddy and I are going to be in Colorado from Jan 10th thru the 15th. Towing the sleds from Indiana. Home base will be in the Idaho Springs area. We'll be driving out from there to hit different spots. Looking for anyone that would be cool for meeting up for a ride. We will have had taken Mike Duffy's avalanche class by then so we'll have some basic avalanche knowledge and gear with us. Thanks for your help.

Just my two cents, but I would set-up camp further West so you don't need to drive so far each day. Snow is better on the Western side. Even stay in Kremling or Rifle or Gunnison.

But then again, you'll have a great trip no matter WHERE you are.

I'll second that statement. You're already driving in the truck/car all the way from Indiana. Don't you want to spend as little time in the truck, and as much time on your sleds once you get here? Geographically speaking, Kremmling is probably the most centrally located. You can hit Rabbit Ears, Grand Lake, Corona Pass, Ute Pass Area, Summit County, Vail Pass, etc much easier from there than Idaho Springs. Plus you can avoid most of the 'ski traffic' on I-70. If you're into 'night life' after riding, then Kremmling might not be for you. You might want to stay in Summit County (Silverthorne-Frisco), Steamboat, Winter Park-Fraser, or maybe Grand Lake. All of them are 'tourist towns' and have more 'outlets' for you to let off some steam after a long day of mountain riding. Kremmling is kind of a Rancher/Hunter town (No offense PJ-Hunter, but it's true).

I live and ride in Grand Lake. I normally ride on Tues, Wed, Thurs. Give me a PM before you get here and I'd be happy to take you up one of those days.
