Hey guys (and gals),
I'll be making a move from NH to WA in late May. Taking a position in Trout Lake. I'm looking for any info you guys can provide on what I can expect for riding and conditions (for next winter). I typically like to stay off trail and ride backcountry, I know (or hope) I'll be putting my little 121" to the test. Are there any areas like this close by? What is the riding season usually like?

I've got a small jet boat I'll be bringing with me as well. Are there some small lakes or ponds closeby that aren't too crowded? What is the invasive situation like?

Thanks for any info you can provide. Anything and everything is much appreciated!

I love Trout Lake - we gather cattle out of Mt Adams in the fall. Only ridden snowmobiles there a few times and thought it was great. Welcome - sorry I'm not much help, but welcome

What kind of work in Trout Lake??

You'll probably ride Mt St Helens and west side of Mt Adams.

Since you'll be roughly 20 miles north of Hood River Oregon, I suspect you'll be heading to Mt Hood area for sledding as well. Keep tabs on the Oregon forum.

You may be able to get a little sledding in at end of May/begiining of June around Mt Hood. . . not sure. This year has been lite on snow.

In the northern part of WA, we typically ride into mid-June. Although, that won't happen this year.

Trout Lake is not a big metropolitan area. Shouldn't be too crowded. . . . .

I'm taking a wildland firefighting position for the Forest Service. Just seasonal but I hope to find some winter work either at a ski area or maybe work as a technician on sleds in the winter if anyone is looking for an exta hand (thats what I did this past winter). Hope to get in lots of riding. I will also keep tabs on the OR forum as well. That's a good idea since I will be so close. I'm hoping for a longgg riding season out there. Typically here in NH we ride late december through most of march. Backcountry really isn't doable until into february. This year riding came to a halt pretty quick. My last ride was the second week of March. I have ridden backcounntry in mid-April though when we have good snow. That's always a treat!

Haha well you ain't having fun unless you're gettin stuck right?! And if you're not you ain't tryin hard enough. Spring riding is what I love the most. Don't get me wrong powder is a treat as well. But there's nothing like building some booters when its 40+ degrees out and carvin up the hillside or seein what you can do for a highmark. I'm sure things will be put into perspective once I get out there and the snow starts flyin. Hey, its a quick job to put an extension on right? But I gotta say I do enjoy the maneuverability of the shorties..
