Head shim VS timming box????

Ok not a turbo expert but can someone tell me and explain the pros and cons of a head shim vs a timing box to run low boost on AV or pump gas.

The shim on the Nyto is a PITA so would the timing be able to do the same thing? The bad part I see about a timing box would be if it took a dump.
