Head light issues

I cannot keep lights in my wifes 550 fan summit. I went to NAPA, bought what the manual states 60/55w H4. Installed them, started the sled, no problem. High beams, no problem. I then gave the sled some throttle and both lights blew out?? This is twice. Any advice?

Well we better start from scratch. You're not touching the glass part of the bulbs with you fingers, even a scratch on them when installing them will make them blow.
If not, does the lights get abnormally bright when applying the throttle.

Sounds like a voltage regulator problem. My buddy had his fail and blew headlight bulbs like crazy. Said his handwarmers worked real well, though. 22 volts will do that,I guess.

Thanks for looking

I did not know if anyone would pay attention to this post. I did not touch them, the glass stayed together, just the elements went. They turned a nice blue color before they went out. Do you think getting bulbs from a ski doo dealer will make a difference (vibration)? As for the voltage regulator, I thought of that, but the gauges and tail light are fine? How much and how difficult to replace the voltage regulator? Thanks again.

did you install a belly pan before this started to happen? if so did you get the directions not to drill the right rear corner one? the voltage regulator sits right above where that hole would go

No on the belly pan. I ordered the voltage regulator today. I will post if it did the trick. If there are any other thoughts, please feel free.

thats funny, i have an 03 summit 550f and got the same problem, bought it used, and just thought the light bulbs were burnt out, bought a pair of bulbs for 50 bucks not knowing the bigger problem, put um in looked great reved it up, pop, pop, and the hand warmers got super hot....

hooked up a volt meter to the wires, at idle it was at about 12-13 volts, little bit of throttle and it spiked to 50 volts,

ordered a new voltage reg, for bout 179 and put it in took no time at all and the problem is fixed....

BUt make sure you check every wire in ur sled as the voltage reg usualy goes bad cus of a short... look under the seat, thats where my sled had the problem, wires were stripped a bit, and thats what fried it.

i fixed that before i did the regulator..

hope that helps
