Head Bolt length

Kind of strange question. We were installing the heads on a 2003 900 motor and the head bolts appear to be too long. Before the heads were tight the bolts were running out of thread and hitting the unthreaded portion. Is there more than one length of head bolt? This motor is a basket case that I didn't take apart.

Any help would be appreciated.

Some of the older sled and I know for sure the 2000 ZR 700 had head bolts that were a little longer. I used them on some old 900's that had custom heads and needed the longer bolts. I have some of each I could measure tommorrow if you want exact lengths.

The wierd thing is that these are the exact bolts that came out of the motor. 1 cylinder and 1 head are the same ones that came off the bad motor as well. If you could post the lengths that would help. Thankis much.
