Wondering what you all thought of trying 09 HCR front shocks w/Ti springs on an 08 M8?
The stance is wider on the HCR. Looks like the HCR's are 19.5" eye to eye and the stockers are maybe 17.5"
Just raise the front up or totally dick with the handling? Wadda Ya Think???

It will change the handling. Heres something to think about though, rumor has it that in the Cat accessory catalog there is a 43" race front end for $90. All 4 a-arms and steering rods. That would allow you to run the hcr shocks. You can also get the ti springs for your stock shocks if that is what you are after.

Must be a rumor, I have the catalog and see nothing of the like.
Since 1 bottom A-arm is in the $90 range and 1 top is in the $70 range I doubt they would do all 4 for $90.

Running that shock setup the sled would ride like Shanny's M1k (and kinda like how my x-f will ride with the new holz a-arms and the 19" shocks) it would raise up the front end a bit.

If you're just looking to save the weight I have some spare TI springs at the house that will fit on your current zero pros.

If you want to see how it would feel you could try those zero-x's that I took off my racer & toss them on yours for a while. At least then you'd know what you're getting into. I was just gonna post them on here maybe this week if I can get around to taking pics.

btw, I guess I've got some TI front shock springs for sale if anyone is interested. I don't need them anymore.

It takes a bit of machining to get the longer shocks to fit and not break off your tie rod ends. Also need to run a dual spring set-up or way too soft a main spring to not get hard steering at normal ride height.
You can raise the skid some to compensate but the extra body roll makes it a bit harder to handle.

IMHO the added drop out isn't worth it except trail railing. 'Bin there done that.

geo, how do you mean break off the tie rod ends? We have a buddy with x-fire floats on his M & has had no problems so far, what should we be looking out for? I'm also on a x-fire that I'm putting a 41" holz setup on & hope I don't have any problems with that.

The steering rods rods hit the upper A-arms (especially the thicker Holz set) and the outer hiems bind in the spindle arms at the bottom of travel. Both can be made to work with a bit of material removal. lift the front (with shocks installed) and turn the handlebars to see.
I made my own steering rods.

This only is a problem if you use too long a front shock (as questioned above) and only causes the stress if you land with your skis turning (like trying to miss that tree you didn`t see over the rise LOL or railing a whooped out corner, playing Blair Morgan LOL)

Thanks for the heads up geo. This is exactly the kind of info I love this board for. Really appreciate the replies.
