Haydays Rookies! Need Help

Me and another hillclimb racer are gonna drive out to haydays from Idaho and could use some planning help. We are gonna load his desert sled in a van and head out. We dont know where to stay or anything. Im excited to go check it out. Been to west a few times and go race in Jackson every year but this is gonna be different. Map says to go across the bottom of WY and Neb to get there but I crossed Neb. once and swore to never do that again. I went to race school out there once and went across Montana and N Dakota. That wasnt too bad.
Like I said, we have no where to stay so any ideas would help and we would like to hang out and have fun. We both own our our own companies so we just want to take a week and tear it up.
I appreciate any info someone may have.
Thanks
PR

Just go to the snobarons website. They have a few hotels listed along with campsites. We're staying at Comfort Suites in Blaine. It is fairly close to the track. Good luck finding something, you'll have a great time at the races!:beer;

I also agree with summit800, forget nebraska!!

Come up to I-90, take it all the way across to I-35 north but try to hit I-35 after rush hour, between 10am and 4pm, I-35 is under construction south of Minneapolis and it can be a real pain during rush hour, morning or afternoon. My son lives in St. Paul, Minn, he says to avoid I-35 you need to get off at Blue Earth, Minn and head north towards Minneapolis you will come out at Shakopee on the south side of Minneapolis. There should be plenty of motels as most of the people at Haydays are locals.

We are coming from Bear Lake, ID.
We already talked about the movie premiere and making it to that. Never been to one but it sounds fun. You should check out the article on offroad.com about this sled we are bringing. It woorks great and think it is a good way for snocrossers to practice all summer.
I'm looking forward to meeting some of the Polaris big wigs. I have only meet a few at Jackson during the races. This will be good to not be in such a hurry like Jackson and be able to visit with them.
What is Haydays like compared to like Jackson or West. Lots more people? Just local flat landers? I hope its like Jackson, I'm always busy at Jackson and dont make it out to have the fun everyone else is. Its all business there for me. So it would be cool to be on the other side of things now.

Going through Nebraska is the fastest way to go(all interstate), no question about it. It might suck, but it'll save you time.

you guys will have a blast at haydays if its your first time. i have been going there since i was about 5. im lucky i live only about 5 miles from the place! there are a couple of hotels right on 35e in white bear lake you could check into. they would be pretty close to get there

Whew made that drive three too many times! I'd draw straws with your partner to see who HAS to drive and who gets to fly. That way you get a 50% chance of having a good time! he he Plus you'll still be pals cause that is a long long time to be confined with anyone of the same sex.

Isn't Bear Lake extreme SE Idaho? I'd go SLC east across the bottom if I started there. We always went the Montana route both north line and the south line when crossing ND or SD. BOTH SUCKED equally! It's a long ugly ways no matter how you go.

Here is your trip tip of the day. DO NOT FREE STYLE IT...plan your trip and get your reservation for lodging set before you leave. LESSON BY EXPERIENCE...the whole world shuts down at dark out there and if you don't have a res for a hotel you will be sleeping in your pickup (normally after you've hit something). You cannot imagine how many deer and antelope are on the road! Push it and you'll spunk one 100%. Been there experienced that. Wondered why there were litterly fifteen big nice hotels at every little no population burg along the way with no apparant industry to support. NOT ONE VACANCY, middle of the week, nothing going on, and it's universally everywhere across that drive. One trip we litterly tried them all (over thirty)..ended up with the last available spot in a rest area! My travel partner nearly had her existance/life ended on that one! Prison wasn't looking like that big of a deteriment at the time. She lived...but we aren't as friendly as we once were:D!

Bring your walking shoes and prepare to be astounded. It's the most sled related crap you will ever see in one dirt field. It's kind of a pilgramage for us western sledders. Something everyone should do...ONCE! Good luck

I have gone ALL ways possible to get into your neck of the woods (Preston ID.)...the FASTEST is up/over/down on 94...so whatever you doo, get onto 94 as soon as possible and put the hammer down, PLUS more big towns/fuel/hotels along the way...all crosscountry WYO. roads suck...90 sucks and 80 thru NEB. is the worst...theres a 100 places to stay around the track (not 5 minutes away...but about 30 minutes its endless)...Blaine is good (next to Majors sports bar)...and only 30 minutes from the track...call me if you like...I'm only 40 minutes away...BJ

Thanks Big
Thats what I was thinking about doing, I went to Conn. once and crossed Neb and about half way through I wanted to drive into on coming traffic! Sounds like Blaine is the place to be. So we will start there with places to stay. Should be a blast. I have a broken heel from a dirt bike accident and I sure hope it feels better by then or else all the walking is gonna suck bad!

The best wat to go is 80
east to rawlins wy 287 to 220
to casper and 25 to 20
to lusk wy at that point two ways to go 85 north to 18 east to 79 north6 to rapid city sd then 90
to worthington mn then 60
to 169 to the citys. or from lusk wy take 20
east into ne to merriman ne g5o north to martin sd 18 east to 83 north to 90
then you no where from there this is 30
miles shorter than rapid city way. this all may sound bad but i have drove it all differnt ways. the two lane this way is all 65 and they wont even look at you at 70. i make this trip 35 times a year to the west coast. good luck see you at hay days.
