Hawk seems to idle a little strange

finished painting the exhaust on my new 05 600 ,put it back together and took it out for a rip on the lawn(mistake).chewed the hell out of the lawn ,the ski just kept grabbing and spinning the track and my shins are still hurting
Anyways the idle seems high untill you pull the choke on then it drops down .when you ref it up it stays high again until flip the choke and bring it down .Is this normal.

idle adj

Where is your hawk set up for as far a altitude and temp compared to where you are at? Sounds to me like it is a little lean at idle or the idle is just set too high. When you flip the choke it just richens the mixture and causes the Rpm to drop.

you might check your pilot jets one could be partly plugged causing it to act lean if your jetting is correct for your altitude , also check your carb boots you may have a cracked one letting it suck extra air thus again causing it idle to lean

As far as the ooops factor goes here is my story.

So it was the day we were loading the 800 after putting it together and on the other sleds Tony would kind of screw around in the yard with them and he just would ride them up into the trailer.

This time however he gets the machine and slowly moves it around to get it loaded in the trailer. Now we have a pretty big yard, maybe 50 feet from the trailer to the front door step. Tony gets on the machine and grabs the throttle to get going, granted he was also planning on screwing around a bit so it was more throttle then normal.

He shot a roost from the front of the trailer, it hit the house, the windows, rock and at least a half of inch of dirt lay on our front door step and a two inch deep trought was in our nice front yard about 6 feet long. The best part of it was the big smile on his face because he knew it was just going to blow his mind on the snow.

Anyhow just story,,,,,

Check your reed valves and intake boot for cracks mine were toast I was experiencing the same problem but with some surging so I got some V-force.

boots are sometimes hard to see cracks can't I spray them with quick start to see if it revs up

Are all hawks hard to start after they sit ,both of mine take 10 -15 pulls to fire up whem cold,it's like the gas drains out or something

If I pull the reeds off can I reuse the gasket if it comes off clean or should I get new ones, don't really feel like doing a leak down test after.
What info do I need to get any motor parts or gaskets from the local brp dealer, wll they know what motor it is.

I couldn't find a picture from the house being sprayed with snow. But I found an old photo of the first Hawkfest that we did four years ago. We gathered up at Reecer creek. The next year it was both Reecer and Manashtash then last year at Mt. Baker and this year in Lolo Montana.

So I'll keep looking for that photo but I came across this and thought I'd share it.
