Cool. That's a Kart Racing engine starter on the floor. I wonder what type engine it might have. Some kid is rippin it up on that!

Yep, just saw it in my yard

My 7 year old is the kid ripping on that little monster.

Top speed

We were running the jetting on the safe side for shake down runs in 50 degree slop snow at 32mph. With proper jetting at max rpm on cold snow it will easly add 5mph. Most impressive is the snappy quick reving power delivery that will pull the front end out of the snow at nearly any speed. It truely performs like a lightweight full size mod. Yesterday we ran road ditches on some rather technical terrain with large road approaches, off camber sidehills and such and he was right there with me the whole time. He is a very experienced little rider who has been following me around on his 120 since three years old. It is amazing what a capable rider can do once on a capable machine.

Awesome thank you very much for taking the time to answer all of this and post more pictures!!

Holy crap. Tell me about the 22HP motor.

Yes, please! I was thinking about that 50 HP rotary racing kart engine until I saw the nearly $6000 price tag. That has got to be more inline with what the average Joe can afford to buy for a similar build. My daughter is 8 now, 9 prior to next winter and the stock 120 is just too small and slow. Going to build her a scaled down PRO, utilizing the 120 plastics since I've had them since before she was born. Scaled EZ-Ryde rear suspension, narrowed 121" paddle track, narrowed '13 PRO QD setup, mini dragster CVT clutches, A-arm front, need an engine capable of about 5000 RPM to do 45-50 MPH top end. Likely could get by with one of the new race spec 120 engines for another year but that engine seems to do well. Sounds geared a little low for the low snow you had. Seems to runout of clutch and unload the engine at speed?

Driveline combo

We had a bad experience with that motor in a stock 120 chassis as a direct chain drive setup that involved about a 50 mph hit into a tree in an uncontrolled vertical wheelie so I geared the belt drive for 35 mph(boy was luckily fine but sled was toast, but prompted the build). For a seven year old it seems to be about right. As we get time on the sled I have other pulleys to gear up to 50mph. The cvt system softens the power delivery to tame down the violent powerband of the kart engine. It is an HPV100 piston ported two stroke built by the Italian company Iame. Great running, inexpensive, super simple and ultra light weight. Thousands of them around from the karting industry. We have some clutching yet to do but going into uncharted waters with this combo. I have had to make my own heel clicker style weights in effort to hold the motor back off the line. The heaviest weights available were not even close. It may sound as though it unloads on top but keep in mind the operating rpm is 14,400, definitely above what any normal sled ever sounds like. We are going to some real snow tomorrow and should have lots of good footage from fresher snow to show later.

Hopefully starting this summer, my dad and I are planning on building a scaled down Cat for my son. We're going to cut and narrow a mountain cat chassis, build a tunnel, and for an engine, we're going to cut a 570 fan cat engine in half and make a single out of it. That should be a decent size engine, using stock clutches.
