If you like boondocking then stay with the powerclaw. I stabbed my powerclaw this last winter and went with the Camo extreme 2.5" and it hooks up too much for my liking, I'm going back to the powerclaw this season. The 2.5 just wants to push the sled forward and is harder to get the track breaking loose and spinning underneith you for boondocking type riding. With another .5" longer paddle this will be even more so. I agree with backcountry, 141, 144, 153(maybe). If you want to point and shoot and that is your thing then go for it but then you may as well just buy a turbo Yammy for that type of riding. If you like all around riding go with the powerclaw and be done with it.

If it fits I would go for it.On the Avid website they have seven tooth drivers for the Cat that would let you run the 3" track.I am going to buy one for my M1000 but will be going all out and getting the 174".:face-icon-small-coo

as far as boondocking with a huge track goes, unless the snow is way setup, the bigger and longer, the easier. when its deep, they flat stay on top and keep on top. a 3" paddle 162 will easily run with if not out do a 174 2.5, if your already running a 162 and used to the length.. the upgrade is gonna be huge in what the sled will do. I have seen plenty of people I ride with make jumps and cannot beleive the jump in performance with the better track.

as far as fit, talk to robbie at avid products, if he has stuff he says will work, it will, his stuff rocks, and he is the man when it comes to showing what the 3 inchers can do on even lower power sleds.

3 inch track

There are only a handfull of people that have put the 3 inch paddle on the M sleds. Spoon, Niner, and his ridding partner have them on there M10's one of them is turboed and the other two are NA with some mods. I have talked to both of them as well as Kurt at Tracks Canada and all I have heard is good things about the performance all around. It will fit under the stock chassis without any driver changes, only some trimming on the heat exchanger side (So I've been told). I have a 162 3inch being trimmed as we speak to fit under my Twisted M7. I will have a good comparison against my brothers Twisted M7 162 2.5inch as soon as the snow flys. I figure if big is good, then bigger is better.

The track fits with stock drivers. I've got a thread started in the M series section with some pics. I will try to take some more to show how much room there is at the front cooler. I believe you won't be sorry with a 3". I ran mine with a stock set up 162 hp and it kept up with my buddies 200 hp sled. Your m8 with that track will be deadly.
