Just seeing what people think of this. brand new crank outta the box and its got rust all over the PTO end. its mainly surface rust but a light coating of oil should have prevented this easy. not what someone wants to see on their brand new 1400 dollar crankshaft when you open up the box. the bearings still spin freely and the other two sides are fine just the PTO end looks like this. The box was fine when it arrived.

I would not be putting that in any engine I was building. that is crazy to think that someone would put that in a brand new egine. I am with Josh on this one. Looks like it was in a very humid place for awhile if the box was in good condition. either that or it was put in a new box and set to you.

wow...how do you know the inner /outer race or balls are not pitted..??

I really dont! it wasnt bagged up when I opened the box (it was open to the air dust elements etc) that it was shipped in. obviously had a run in with some moisture at one point. Ill be making a call in the AM. Just curious if this has happend to anyone else on here.

send it back....

You can't take a chance on a rusty crank. Send it back. Every crank that I have received was oiled up and wrapped in heavy plastic and sealed. Hopefully at t his time of the year it shouldn't impact your riding, so send it back.

Good luck.

I see that crank is welded?Must be aftermarket Good luck hope you got it from a reputable place. OOPS!! i guess you didn't or it would not have come like that. I would get a refund and look else where if it were me, any one that would even send something like that out improperly pakaged? well i woul Question there abilitys to rebuild correctly.

rust

i just remembered ordering a crank off e bay that "just came out of a running motor". opened the box to find pine needles rust grit and grime everywhere. i think i used one rod and one lobe out of the three sections but i only paid 100 for it i still smile about the pine needles, how did they get there?? i will never know

Reminds me of a deal a guy offered me once... Had a super old yam 440 I bought from a fellow snowester. (needed a clutch) anyway friends picked it up for me and dropped it off at a local mtn town we ride out of. Anyway it sat outside the hotel for a few days and when I was loading it to leave a local comes up and says..."I was looking at your sled the other day and noticed there is no clutch" I said yeah I need to get one... He says..."I have a near brand new one that I rebuilt years ago I will sell yah for 50.00 bux" I was all over that and told him to go get it. Then he says, "Great I will go dig it up, it may take me a while its tied to a fence post and under 4' of snow"

HE WAS SERIOUS! I just LOL and walked away.

Crank poped the foam packs in shipping which is where the moisture came from as i have noticed in the past having some kind of liquid by product inside the plastic.

The crank is taken care of by the gentleman that assembled it. I was offered a brand new crank 150 credit on shipping charges and a 3 year warranty!!! Stuff happens i understand it and have been on both sides of it for sure!!!! Its how the problem gets resolved between the two that make all the difference.
