Gen 1 has been a favorite of mine for 15 years because their flex has saved my suspension numereous times and they are great floaters BUT they are really hard to turn and don't counter steer well--too much tail resistance.
I tool an old pair and modified them: (1) cut the outside carbide down to 6" (2) turned up the tails for RER then cut them 3" shorter (3) Carl's cut the outside edge (4) belt sanded the tunnel behind the saddle to 1/3 the original height to make it flatter (5) modified an Artic Cat saddle to fit a DOO for a 37" ski stance.
Results: One hand steering on the trail, easy to counter steer, improved steering in set-up snow, doesn't get sucked into trenched out powder, retains flex, no darting, and lost about 1.5# overall.
