Hard Starting Phazers in Cold ??

[I[/I]Someone that has a Phazer for any length of time let me know if these sleds are hard starters in cold weather.
I just bought a couple of them and neither would start this morning. It was -6 but hell they are snowmobiles and should start in the cold..
Is there any secret to starting them?

O7 ? You need to take your sled to a dealer and get a new ecm and decompression sping. All 07 phazers need the update, Its not a recall. Find a good dealer and they will take care of you.

If 07 the new ecm makes a hell of a difference. And it they are newer they start hard anyway. My mechanic says once you start cranking dont quit til it starts. Hasnt failed me yet.

Thanks Guys I appreciate the info. I'll take them over to my Dealer?? and see what he says.
I was afraid that the good things I was hearing about the Phazer were sugar coated but was not sure, I've never owned anything Yamaha that I had good luck with; with the exception of the old Phazer's.
WTF the only thing the Dealer can say is that he won't fix them then i'll tell him to shove the up his A** :)

I have an 08, the ecm was better on these I believe. One thing that helps is when u turn the key on, wait till you here the fuel pump quit running before you try to start it. Helps on mine. Dino

There is also a recall on steering ball joints or something like that. Also a fix for it not shifting in or out of reverse. There is a list of things that your dealer should be able to pull up. Might as well get it all fixed at once.

Yep my Dealer wants me to bring them in for the recalls; I just want to see how he gets them out of the trailer since neither will start HA! this should be interesting.
He must make money on the recalls because this is the first time a dealer ask me to bring anything in for recalls..
**** I just wanted a couple sleds that were easy to use, looks like these are not the answer. Screw it if they don't do the job I'll just sell them and quit riding and stay home where it's warm :)

I was wondering the same thing when I took my non-starting Phazer in for service. The dealer I go to in Denver (Vickery) has a fork lift with a really long fork on it covered in carpet. They use it to move sleds around reguardless of whether they start or not. It's safer I guess, less chance of screwing-up a sled. Smart. All sled dealers worth a sh@* should have one or something similar.

P.S. The new Phazers are nice sleds. They're not going to win any hill-climbs or races around the meadow. But they're nice, dependable, fun, little sleds.

Max;
When you say non-starting Phazer was it because of the cold thing?
I just talked to the Dealer and they are putting in a new Ecm thing and some gaskets and springs in the decompression thing.
I guess I'm not used to a good Dealer because these guys seem to know what the hell they are doing.. They did have a forklift to take them out of the trailer, real cool..
I've already done the steep and deep stuff and now I just want to see some of the places we have ridden to in past years, so these Phazers should do the job fine if we can get them to start :)
Thanks for the info..

I just had mine done last week and the new Cold Start Kit makes a big difference. They also replaces the old belt with a new one that is supposed to address the reverse problem???? Also a side panel fix for the addressing the icing up of the running boards from melted snow under the seat. May want to ask about those fixes when you take it in.

I take it take your talking about the 07, the 08 came with "side panels" ...they doo very little to fix the icing up of the running boards. Peeps on here have sealed off the opening on the tunnel with a aluminum plate, keeps the snow off the exhaust and top of the tunnel. Clams to work better. I think the 09 tunnel is sealed off.:face-icon-small-sho Dino

Yea, mine does not like to start in the cold. I have heard of the fix that Yamaha has been doing, and I need/want to take her in to get the upgrade but I'm a two hour drive from my favorite dealer (Vickery in Denver) and I can't seem to find the time to get it done. In the mean time, I keep a can of Starting Fluid in my enclosed trailer, and I just give her a TINY () squirt into the airbox to get her going in the morning and she's good for the rest of the day. I know this is not good for her, but I think it's better than cranking on it for 2 mins and running down the battery and wearing-out the starter.

Yep. Mine is an 07. The hole in the tunnel was already closed when I got it. The guy at Yamaha just informed that they would have done it had it not already been looked after.
