hard rivets

This morning I removed the triangle pc from the rear of the running board to help with snow evac. The mandrel in these is very hard. So I figured I would share the fastest way to get them out. Use I punch and pound the mandrel out first. Then the rivet drills easily. Makessure to not let any of the rivets roll down the running booard under the footwell as if they bounce arojnd they could cause damage if they get in the clutch sheaves.

I used a grinder its fast!!

Or you can use a grinder. . . I don't like to get anywhere near my new sled with a grinder though. I just figured I would help out the guys who wanted to drill these out. When I went to do it this morning I found it hard to drill the mandrel out. So using a punch the mandrel came right out and it drilled super easy.

I used solid aluminum rivets with a air hammer and bucking bar to replace them as I could not find any stainless steel or zinc plated rivets locally.

I could see why you would say that I've seen a few people use a grinder and it scares me. I cut the bumper where it came in to the foot area.

Hmmmm good idea. I am pretty good with tools but even a grinder scares me on my new sled. Easier to not make mistakes with a drill.
