Handwarmers: Solution?

Yep, this weekend ride 2, the hand warmers finally died. First the left, then the right then the thumb. I would think it has to be a short, the first ride we had no problems in 65 miles. This ride the snow was deep and there were many times when wet snow was up over the hood.

Has anybody found a solution?

Thicker gloves for now. Took mine about the same # of miles to burn out. But my thumb warmer still works. I ran direct power to test the warmers and they dont heat up. I think it is the warmers themselves....

I heard the elements burn out because the bars are aluminum and are drawing too much heat out of them.. Dunno but it is the elements for sure my dealer replaced them as I was out early this year before they informed the dealers there would be a recall..

I don't understand why Doo made the same mistake Yammy did last year. Why don't they just make bars out of chromoly ?

Had success with this last year on a pair of fly's

use the spray foam insulation (think it's called GOOD STUFF)in the ends of the bars, maks sure there is enough to fill past where your warms and grips will bo back on.
On the bars, wrap one or two layers of high grade duct tape around bar ends. Then a layer of electrical tape, then a layer of heat tape. Then install the warmers. I guess the idea behind the heat tape is that it reflects the heat back to the grips.... I think the biggest deal is getting the insulation between the warmers and the aluminum bar, and the insulation stops the aluminum bars from disapating the heat as quickly.

My warmers worked this weekend but I only rode 25ish miles.

I'll bet if you don't want to wait for the recall the ATV heat sleeves will work just dandy, they have thicker elements and I'll bet they work awsome. Plus a lot of ATV's have AL bars..

Moose racing also sells heavy duty hand warmers that will work with the aluminium bars. :D

fix

We had 2 sleds with the warmers not working. When we looked close at where they failed, it looked like it was where there was a fold in the element from the installation. Nothing to do with the bars. Moved the power wire to the second element, reinstalled them, & they work. Be careful not to crease them again. I heard after a certain date, the warmers aren't failing. All the sleds have alum bars.
