handlebar riser questions?

My riding partner wants to extend his handlebars at least 6" (he is 6'8" tall) as he is tired of bending over to ride. He has an 07 m8. I have never done this so any help would be appreciated. I know he will need to extend the throttle and brake lines. Is this hard? Who, what, where, when and how much would be information I need.

Thanks,
MX

as was said you should just need a brake line extension and reroute the throttle cable. 6" is a tall riser, I wanted to go that high as well but I only went with a 4" because if you ever roll the sled that tall of a riser is just asking for trouble (bending the shaft)

I also agree that's going to be a lot of leverage on the stock post. Might want to look into a longer/stronger steering post from Fastlane.

stock steering post

has anyone ever done anything to strengthen the stock steering post? I also have a friend that is 6-7 and needs probabaly 6-8' of rise to ride comfortable. The fastlane posts are not cheap!

I've got a 5" riser on my 05. The stock throttle cable works, but it's at it's limit. I got the extended brakeline from RSI.

the only way I could see strengthing one is putting a sheeve around it. pm backcountryislife on here. I believe he did it to his stock adjustable post.

I twisted my stock post off at the end of last season and after looking at all the aftermarket options I decided to get another stock post and sturdy it up. I haven't done it yet but I am going to cut near the top and find a heavier piece of round stock that will fit inside the post and then weld it back together. Should be hell for stout at least I hope so I am going to be running an 8" RSI riser this year. Beware that if you do strengthen the stock post you will more then likely break the bulk head and tunnel where it bolts at the bottom. I think AC designed there post to be weak enough to bend before it damages the mounting point.
