Handlebar Mounted Brake for TS Kit

Guys,

Do you really need a 5 foot brake line to go from the handlebars to the timbersled track brake resorvoir? I have researched that the rear foot brake ices over and it can be difficult to modulate the rear brake with stiff boots on in the snow. I would prefer to take off the stock front and rear brakes and leave them connected to with the take off parts. Add a seperate handlebar mounted brake resorvoir and cable for the snowbike kit. You can pick one up off of a CRF or KX on Ebay complete for around $75 but I am not sure if the front brake line is long enough?

I guess if you hate bleeding brakes that badly I could see your point, but taking the brake line off the front right lever, adding the line that Timbersled sells, connecting it to the rear master cylinder, and bleeding it isn't a big job. Takes about 10 minutes.

The way it sounds like you want to do it would be the same but you'd have to remove the stock lever/master cylinder in addition to what you already have to do.

Edit: And there are other reasons to have the hand brake over the foot brake. Personally, I really REALLY dislike the foot brake.

Yes I hate bleeding brakes, I prefer a hand brake, so if a stock CRF or KXF line is long enough than I will only have to bleed it once and leave it attached to the timbersled kit and remove the stock rear brake and front brake without having to bleed them or worry about them at all on the timbersled kit. So i was wondering if anyone else has done this besides me so I do not purchase the spare front brake and line and find out it is to short. I have tryed to measure it and I feel that it will be close to fitting but will not know until I try it or if someone else has done it already.

You might want to give Timbersled a call. If I remember correctly they used to have to sell a separate hand brake that went with their 2011 kits and they might have some more in stock. Not sure on the price, but they would know the best place to get something.

That's what I'm doing, just getting an Ebay mc complete, and with the long hose from ts, and gonna leave it together. Make it simple. But there was something on the timbersled site that the new kits can use a motorcycle master cylinder, but the previous kits required the one from timbersled to work as a hand brake. So i guess the caliper is different?

Timbersled guys, any input on if a 2011 brake will work with a Honda or etc OEM front master cylinder and hose? Also will the 4 ft OEM line reach or is a 5 ft one required for 2009 Husaberg 570?

The long brake line that Timbersled sells is the perfect length to run the hand brake on Husaberg with no extra. So the stock brack line would not work. Not sure if the honda master will work but the stock Berg and KTM one works good.

Well I found a KTM complete assembly for $68 and I am going to try and see if it will fit, if not I will sell everthing except for the brake and resorvoir and purchase the longer hose. I will keep you posted as to what I find.

One thing you guys should know is the 2011 Mh kits are designed to run the Wilwood hand brake master cylender that came with those kit. If you want to hook it up to a stock master cylender you will need to take the caliper apart and put a .130 shim (washer) behind the pistons. This will keep the pads pushed out close to the disc. If you do not do this then the pad wil move back to far when you let of the brake and you will not beable to get firm brake.
On the 2012 and 13 kits you do not need to do this.

I purchased this kit used from a guy who upgraded to the 2012 kit. So what will he recieve with the 2012 kit that is different from the 2011? I am getting his fit up kit as he still is using the same bike so we will need to know what to do brake wise? Does the 2012 kit come with the longer brake line and handlebar mount brake resorvoir?

The kit brake on the 2012 Horse can use the stock master cylinder hand brake from your bike. The 2012 kit does not come with an extended brake line so you must purchase an extended line. The 2011 kits could not use the stock master cylinder so that is why it came with it's own hand brake.

Guys,

I have the used KTM EXC front brake assembly and it is installed and seems to fit with the timbersled kit without a longer brake line. I will do the 0.130 shim and let you know how it works. Getting pretty pumped about the snow falling and getting to ride soon.
