I'm looking for a horizontal shoulder holster to carry a 1911 or a Ruger P85.

Ah! Well I just bought a Blackhawk drop leg Serpa holster for my 1911 that I really like, great for hiking and that, although I don't know about riding. You might also look into a chest rig........lots of options now.....
I love the Serpa holster, holds the gun well, and is a very natural draw. I had to do a little bit of trimming on mine to make my double stack mag.(wider frame) fit, but probably would have been alright without........

NICE! will NOT be dissapointed! You might also look at there interchangable system, you buy the cheap adapters and use the same holster for a few different rigs (chest, drop leg, shoulder, etc.). I haven't bought one yet though, mostly because it'd give me an excuse to buy more crap.

I would highly recommend going to defensivecarry.com and asking the question. There is a LOT of great inf and people on there thats where I learn a lot of things about guns and holsters.
