WA7QKD... got my tech license about 10 years ago and then dropped my call sign for my dad's old one. He's been in it for over 50 years and has every license, teaches a couple classes from time to time, in charge of the local civil air patrol communication side and helps get repeaters setup all over the state of Idaho... He's forgot more about the stuff then I'll ever know. I haven't kept up on it lately but I hear there are some pretty cool things technology wise going on.

I carry a small Kenwood handheld that has been very useful in a couple situations that went bad snowmobiling.

My wife also has her's... KD7BZU

K7AIH.

FT60 goes with me just about everywhere, 8800 in the truck, motorola SP21's for group use (they live in my truck).

I should get on 2m more often.

73 :)

Colorado connection runs a big linked system from denver/boulder up through the mountains.

CRA runs a handful along the front range. The 145 machine is the one I used to spend a lot of time on, still pop on once and a while but I haven't spent much time on air (amateur, anyways) recently.

Get used to the lingo, join up with a few clubs (I keep a membership with CRA), and if you ever feel really adventurous and want to see some of the nerdiest people you'll ever get the chance to meet, go to a hamfest/swapmeet. I think there's one coming up in august in golden. Field days are fun too, make a few contacts on HF, then drink and bbq :)

Sorry RP - I'm not a legit HAM (yet). Lots of respect however for those who are. We use Yeasu & Kenwood equipment mostly and just camp out in the middle of what we believe is the un-used satellite band. If you're ever in CB put your HT on 435.500 and you'll find us. Just don't tell the FCC!!!

;-)

VE7 JJW Have had my licence since I was 16. Running a Icom W32A great radio but seems to getting quite outdated lately. All most all the guys we ride with are hams which has got us out of some tight situations before as well as helped others with their emergencies.

Has anyone played around with the new D Star system. I have only just started looking into the topic but it looks like the application possibilities are endless.
