So, week 5 is gone! Halfway done with this, umm, interesting training. It's been better and worse than I ever thought it could be, and usually at the exact same time. Got liberty after the 3rd week and get it every Saturday around 1 PM till Sunday about 7 PM, but have had duty two of the three weekends off, so not all that relaxing. Sitting in a hotel room right now, but have to be back on base in formation at 8 AM...ugh.
I have found that physically I'm good at running...3 miles in 18:45 for my midway PFT yesterday...only got beat by 10 guys out of 150. I'm HORRIBLY WEAK at pushups...absolutely the worst in my (now) 41 person platoon (we started at 62)...but, I'm improving weekly. I don't get yelled at for them anymore.
I've found that I'm a little quiet when in a leadership position, but that is changing too...getting much more comfortable telling people what to do.
For anyone who really knows me, they don't believe that as I've always kinda been a know-it-all that told people what I thought...no more apparently. Most the physical stuff is just mind over matter and keep pushing.
Doing well academically, but I've never worried about that stuff anyway. The tests are relatively simple...not rocket science.
Took me two weeks to get used to being yelled at...had absolutely NO bearing at first and didn't really know what to do when I screwed up and got jumped on....don't get yelled at much anymore though, so it's not really a factor.
Did what is called the Combat Course on Tuesday of this week...about a 45 minute course with 4 water obstacles to go through (completely submerged). Water was a steaming 36*F with 4" of ice floating in it...I have NEVER been so cold in my life!!! I thought I had before...not even close. Have to "back crawl" through a 24" culvert about 5' long completely submerged under water...talk about conquering fears! Water, cold, claustrophobia all at the same time.
a pic of me from the 4th day here at our initial PFT.
Have lost 8 pounds, and I'm eating like a HORSE right now. Stuff 2 meals into my face in the 15 mins we get to eat...don't taste ANYTHING, just need nutrition!![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
Anyway, am doing well, only really 4 weeks of training left...the last week is outprocessing and graduation. After graduation we get two days off and report to TBS for 6 more months of training on that Monday. oh joy...gotta find a way to get my pickup out here then.![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
Hope you all are having tons of fun in the snow! Keep it on the west coast, ok? I don't want ANY to train in out here.![Big grin :D :D](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
