Halfway conditions - use caution.

Halfway conditions - improving.

Could be some dangerous conditions in the Halfway area. We had 2 storms in the last 2 days. First one dropped about 8 inches and last nights storm put down 6 inches here in town with more in the mountains of heavy wet snow. Current temperatures are about 40° with some strong winds.

Add this new on top of all the other fresh snow with high winds building & conditions don’t look good.

We had a local swept off of the road to cornucopia by an avalanche last week he tried to swim it out and was caught up to his arm pits but he was able to get out on his own.

Be very careful if you go into the back country.

Yeah, I was just at the Cornucopia Lodge last week and they were worried about the road then. Man the snow was so deep, we ended up riding up the road 77 all day Friday last week and it was awesome.

Hey Al, has the groomer been able to do much with all the slides I've been hearing about?

They are trying

to get the trails groomed.

Then did get to fish lake the other day and over carson grade but that's all I know of right now.:o If I get any updates I'll post em.

updates?

Al do you have any updates on conditions? anything new from the weather wizards???

Conditions are improving

Groomers and riders are reporting improving conditions as the snow is settling in some now. There is still plenty of the soft and deep to have a blast in.

We have had warming temps here in town and weather report is for more sun and milder temps through the week.

We are having a ♣ Poker ♠ Run this Sunday with a $4000 purse.

Sign up from 9am to noon at the Halfway Lions Club so come on over.

So I take it there grooming the trails now? They were the worst ive seen during and after the ladies ride...

Our registrations arent payed so we can come home and need medical attention for broken backs and bruised kidneys!

Is there a lack of operators or what? Looks like panhandle needs a lesson from McCall's groomers this year! They've been doing an amazing job! Thats part of the reason halfway's local business's have suffered and others have prospered.

Hopefully the groomers are running non stop this weekend or there will be alot of ticked off people!

We just got back from riding tues, weds and thurs. The conditions while we were there were pretty much go anywhere snow. The north slopes were pretty well set up and boon-docking down in the canyons was awesome with lots of soft stuff. The groomer came through thursday in the morning and smoothed out the rough trails. It was a great few days and we tried to not leave anything un-touched:D

Next Week

My Friends and I plan to be in Halfway the 21st thru the 24th or 25th. When do the groomers go out? Obviously, we would wish to hit the Fish Lake trail and then head left. Last year was great, so we look forward to a super time!:D:D:face-icon-small-coo

You didn't succeed

It was a great few days and we tried to not leave anything un-touched:D

You guys didn't do a very good job up there. I was up Friday :sun: and other than the groomed trail I didn't see any tracks anywhere It was like it had snowed again. Vast areas of untracked fun to be had with super go anywhere snow not what you would call deep powder but fun none the less.

It should be good for you I hope we can get the groomer out after our poker run ♥ ♠ ♣ on Sunday as the trail up past Fish Lake will be HELL tell we do. It hasen't been getting cold enough at night after they have been groomed to set up like they should and a groomed trail needs about 20° + 6 hours with no traffic to set up really good.:rose:

we sure tried!

Looks like we'll have to try harder next time I guess Al:p We road table top down to the cabin and down the clear creek drainage...awesome boon-docking by the way,(but watch out for the creek crossings down there) and back over to fish lake from there Sugarloaf and back to the cabin and back down to Cornicopia. Only road trail for about 5 or 6 miles. It was a good few days.:clock: Hope you have a great weekend with the poker run Al. Judging by the amount of snowmobilers we seen coming back to Hermiston form Baker City yesterday you're gonna have a great turn out.
Later, Toby

Still good snow here

Maybe 8 to 10 new from the last 2 storms sense last weekend.

Had a beautiful day :sun: today cool with good snow near the top but the ride was a good/not so good ride as friends had some sled troubles.:face-icon-small-sad

800 dragon lost a drive shaft near the top of the mountain had to turn skis around and load it on the back of another sled to get it out. Get back to the trailer and another friends Ski Doo started running on one cylinder just as we get back. Pulled the plug and very little compression. Two sleds dead so loaded up and come home after a :beer; or 2.

There will be another day.:face-icon-small-coo
