Hail Damage and Insurance

First off, do a walk around and make a list of everything you know is damaged.
Contact your insurance company and have them do a damage asessment.

Don't take their word for the dollar amount of damage.
Most insurance companies will try to stear you towards who they want you to use. It's cheaper for them and not always better for you. Get second opinions on damage repair.
When we had the tornado roll thru my area last year it did over 8k worth of damage to the house and other stuff. Just the roof, the insurance company was off over a grand. Most places will deal directly with your insurance company to get paid.

For your car, find a repubable repair shop and get some quotes. Once you settle on a place, if there is a difference between what the repair shop says and the insurance company says, let them deal with each other directly. The only thing you want is the car repaired, not to get in a cat fight over who is paying what.

I deal with this all the time. Best answer is to have it all fixed. They cant argue much with those bills but if you want to cash out on something do your research and get bids as if you are fixing it. This will insure you are getting fair $ amount.

That sucks, Chris! Gotta love living on the Front Range, eh? Mule got whacked too.

Don't let the Ins. bend ya over. Argue and do it a lot. Plus, just ask the contractors/dealers/auto body to factor in your deductable. Some will, some won't but it can't hurt to ask.

thanks guys. Here is a pic of the side of my camper

hmm i hope i got everything insured

Here is something that $$ can't replace. My GF has been complaining that she can't use the garage because of all my toys (sled is safe and sound :D ) Just last weekend we went to go look at a carport. Guess whois in the dog house today :( THIS GUY :beer;

hooly **** you got hit hard. i would say you will be getting a new roof out of that deal. it's something that people don't think of often. last year we got hit by high wind nad there were so many claim in our area they were hireing independnt adjusters. well i got a dumb on. he was coming out on a saturday morning and he over slept and was 4 hrs late. yes he actually told me he over slept. he was so stupid he paid me for alot of extras and i made out very good

In Bismarck where I live, we have had huge hail storms about every two years that are major damage events like yours.

Every insurance company is going to be different. For the roof, mine for example will mark off 3 different squares randomly on the roof, and if any of them have more than 10 hail marks, it gets replaced. For the siding they just started circling with the chalk all the dents, and if they hit the certain amount in a square, it was added to the list. Vehicles were even easier, if there was a dent it was considered damaged, no questions asked. Depending on the company you are with they might total your neighbors roof, but a different company might not.

Some things to do: Check into the paintless dent repair shops. If you really got hammered over a wide area in town, they will come from all over the country and stay there in hotels for months. Look for the ones that are licensed, talk to them, and find the reputible ones, and look over a vehicle that has already been fixed. Save a ton of money on repairs and with pushing the dents out the correct way you will never be able to tell.

When they do come to check out your place, go on the roof with him and help him find the damage. Make him expalin his standard first then go with and make sure he is doing it right.

Get in line early with your adjuster to get a look at your stuff. If it takes too long, you might slowly be put in line at repair places, a lot of people are going to have claims to get fixed.

(Had to add on the hail storms, when the adjuster last came to our house he told us a story of a guy who claimed he had a hailed out car, he got there and it was all dented. Only problem was he said that his car was parked in the driveway, but the hail didn't reach that area, turns out he wanted a new car and put golf balls in a pair of socks and went to town.... adjuster said sorry and left hahaha.....

Find some of those stories for us, they do get good when this amount of money is invovled.... :beer; )

Dude...I feel for ya. My whole town got drilled about 3 yrs ago. My house and garage have vinyl siding and were full of holes. Plus my eves, fascia, shingles and holiday trailer. Truck was in the garage at the time. Sometimes the insurance company will assess the damages and offer a payout...especially if there's a ton of claims in the same area. I had the ins company pay for the re-roofing od both buildings. Ins paid directly for 3 new sides on my trailer as well. Siders were real busy so the Ins company offered me a payout on that...I took it. Had the sideing replaced by my own guy for about 50% less....the rest went into the sledding budget that year. Biggest thing is you gotta stay on 'em....don't let them drag it out....'cause they will.

wow, you got pounded.

New gutters
new sides on your camper
Prob. total the sled trailer cover.
Car
roof
Make sure you look at the vinyl windows. There is a plastic cover that covers the window seal. If that is shattered, the window will need repaired. I had that on my sliding back door.

Also have them send out a siding expert to look at your siding. That type of siding is just pressed together with pressure and glue. A good ding in the siding will allow water to penetrate into the siding and it will start swelling rendering the siding useless. This damage (just like your roof) won't be aparent for months. So get it inspected.

We just got the rain and wind - but it smells like onions here at the house so I am guessing Sakata's and those guys got hammered along Highway 85.

We got hail about 6 weeks ago - our yard is just starting to look good again. Luckily it was just a bunch of small hail that only damaged the trees/shrubs/flowers, your damage looks a lot worse - sorry to see that and sorry for the people down there that are underinsured.

holy hell you got it way worse than we did.

Still had spots with hail leftover this morning, did some damage to the trees and bushes but looks like the vehicles/roof was spared.

The drainage ditch I pass on my way to work had a lot of ice on the banks.

We just had our roof replaced from a storm from last year. Wouldn't you know, we just got hit hard again last night! Had a microburst in the hood before it turned into a tornado just south of us (15 streets). So, we will have the roofing company come over and inspect it again. Just deal with someone reputable. We have State Farm. We couldn't have asked for better service from them.

Been on the phone with USAA pretty much all morning. They are looking to payout quickly because of all the claims being filed. For trucks we bring them to ABBRA auto body and they do an estimate. Basically USAA pays that minus the deductible. I've dealt with ABBRA before and had a good experience so let's see what happens now.

The camper will be interesting
