had to heli lift my Tapex of the ice cap yesterday. brocken chain again...

two chains in 1500km. both snapped at wot. at only 10lb of boost.
tension was good. just checked it the day before.
anyone else having this problem?
is there a stronger chain for an Apex?

That sucks. I would look into alignments and bearings in the driveline if i were you. Something could be off or out of spec, not saying it is but possible.

Which kit? Broke mine when the lower gear bolt head sheared off. I run a Boondocker and speculation is the heat caused the head to weaken

They don't break chains for no reason. They are Hyvo and tough as nails.....there isn't a better chain available.
Could be shimmed improper, tension too tight, bearing in chaincase toast, Gears are ruined. Have a pro look at it..........probably save you a third or fourth chain explosion.

Good luck
RS

I agree, theres no way that chains breaking without something else causeing it. There must me a bearing seized or something climbmax metioned. I have huge km's on boosted sleds and ive never had a chain break, let alone even stretch.

good news. the chain snapped clean. all the links in one of the junctions broke clean.
because I flew it out and didn't try to spin the track( it was locked) I saved my chain case and gears. only had to put a new chain in. :):):)

thanks for the good info. now lets see...
the chain tension was good, the gears and bearings are good, I even had my jack shaft bearing and drive shaft bearing changed last summer with new ones just in case. and I did have a professional work on it.

what do you mean by "shimmed improper"?

Gears --- change them too.
Something is wearing or fatiguing the chain pins.
I've never been able change the chain on anything without changing the sprockets also (bikes to bicycles).

2nd,,,when it costs 1200 bucks to fly it out,the sprockets are a pretty minor cost at this time.

Make sure the gears are perfectly in line with each other........straightedge. There are shims or washers behind them that are supposed to take care of that. I've never broken a chain either.

I bet its something to do with what you had done here......cause since you've broken what,...... 2 chains??

5 years for me running a yami with boost and I've never broken a chain............ someting not right der fella!

all I did was change those bearings because I've had them fail before on my stock Apex. they get water in them and go bad. the first chain broke before I did that anyway.
I'll check the alignment of the gears though, could have something there...
