H.r. 980 - nrepa

There cannot be enough threads about this.
This is a BIG deal.

Keep signing petitions. Keep writing letters.

Scott is correct - this is a BIG deal. If you look at the map, you can see the most affected areas. Three of the proposed states will suffer greatly. In addition to riding, there are back country airstrips, ATVS, and other motorized vehicles effected by this proposal. The more cosponsors there are the better chance the bill will pass. This bill is artificial and deserves attention and action from the users (US!!) and not the sponsors or their pocketbooks. Call your rep and tell them to vote no!

This is one of those times - if you do not voice your opinion you do not have the right to . . .

You better believe it's big. Let's take area we've all been talking about. Stanley Idaho, Boulder White Clouds Area. Here's a map of what is already Wilderness, what Simpson wants to make wilderness, and the kicker what NREPA will do. The map is huge, so go take a look.

Go here and find your favorite riding area. http://maps.bigsky.org/nrepa

I'll summarize for you SE Idaho People.

There will be nowhere left to ride. Stanley is gone, bear valley gone, McCall behind Brundage, Secesh, Lick Creek, gone. West Mountain areas such as Snowbank and Cuddy and Council Mountian, gone.

PAYETTE NATIONAL FOREST: McCall Area.

And, when your looking at these maps, notice there's a lot of new wilderness, but there' also a lot of new "proposed wilderness". Another words, they are already lining up for the next round of land closures. You can bet those areas will be operated as Defacto Wilderness. Also pay attention to the "biological corridors", you can guess how they will be managed.

Here is an easy way to sign your name opposing the H.R. 980 bill. It also allows you to forward your concerns to your Senator(s) Click below

I went to the link and was disappointed that ONLY 125 folks from Montana have submitted the VERY easy, no brainer, click, enter name and done format.

Come on GUYS. We need numbers.

Thank you Skooter for very important information! But, don't just sign the petition, NAG your representative. See my sig line for a linky. There are quite a few cosponsors for this bill and it is very scary. This bill does not just hurt us riders, but our summer fun too (ie. ATV, Back country airplanes, dirt bikes, etc.) basically all motorized vehicles. Trust me - Minnick is my new best friend.

BTW Wade - Call Simpson's office and talk to them about the White Clouds. I understand the office is very approachable.

Their approachable about this stupid bill. But, ask about Boulder White Clouds, and you get a different response.

What the heck would it take, for me to run for Congress. I'd love to kick Simpson in the azz over Boulder White Clouds.

Lets all work together and keep hammering these guys til they let it go.. what else can we do?? Looking at these maps I don't see my happy little corner of Utah being affected, few areas in wyo where I ride and I don't like it. Uinta's are safe (for now) only matter of time before they creep over my border.. we got 4 months to work together, sign the damn HR 980!!!!! Sign it under different names if you have to!!! Tell friends, family, children! I forwarded the email to 65 people so far! Sen Barrasso of Wyo has already sent me a response I posted it in General snowmobiling! Whether we like it or not, were a big, sick saddistic family and we all have resources. Lets DO THIS!!!:beer;

I support HR 980 and would like to see it passed. I use Motorized and non motorized forms of transportation as recreation, but I believe that our National Parks and forests need to be protected so that future generations have the opportunity to see them and use them like we have. Please protect these lands at any cost!

Did anyone else see this in the list of people that signed the petition? I reported it, but after reading it realized this tool actually signed the petition OPPOSING HR 980 to get to this point. NAME NOT DISPLAYED!?!?!?! Are you saying you support OR oppose OR both??? I hope this person chose the email option to forward an opposition letter to congressman also ;) Maybe it's some kind of reverse psychology or something. I have signed it twice along with others, and send emails to friends/family/politicians urging them to oppose HR 980.
