Gunnison National Forest administrative roads

USFS wants to spend $2,000,000 to "decomission" trails in GNF.
Local community has pushed back, as fewer trails will yield more user conflicts.

MtnBikers are up in arms, as they expect trails to be built in a "proposed" wilderness area.....

The craziness around here never ceases...

You have property around Pitkin?

40 acres at the top of Hall's Gulch if you are familiar with Pitkin,
just below Fairview Peak at 11,500-12,000 feet.

I hope the blanket responses help because the forest service guy(Gary Shellhorn) I talked to that is in charge of the project says you have to pick an individual road and give reason why it should be kept open, not just say they all should stay open.

I don't understand? "they expect trails to be built in proposed wilderness area"
The whole town should be up in arms bikers of both flavors is what keeps that town going in the summer...

Wow, way up there, 10,000 feet is "high and cool" enough for me, I own S 1/2 of Havana.

Max - the loonies are running the asylum. Wildflowers, Art Festivals, Wine events, and Environmental Sayonces are all the rage these days. Simply disgusting IMO.

The Axtel Triangle is being proposed as Wilderness to cut off access to slury pond lands form the Mine. The enviro-bikers like the idea, but it competes with where they want to put a bunch of new "muscle power" er...mechanized...er....mountain bike trails!

Created utter confusion for them.

Yeah, too bad the hippies and trust fund babies run that part of the state...
I love CB for the mountain biking it's the best anywhere as far as I'm concerned although I must admit I usually stay in Gunni...
Do you have any info on the wilderness proposal?

It's about 3/4 of the way down..

And here's the wackiness from our TownCouncil Dudes & Dames..

Of note is:

2. To the maximum extent possible, trails should be accessible directly from growth centers such as municipalities and CB South. In support of this principal, the Town contributed to the acquisition of the Lower Loop ten years ago, which accesses the Raggeds Wilderness Area at Oh-be-joyful Creek. Nine years ago the Town worked with a developer to create a trail access, direct from town, to the Upper Loop, now known as Tony’s Trail. The Town is currently working to create access from the Town to Baxter Gulch and the Forest Service lands in the Whetstone/Carbon Peak area. We encourage the Forest Service to work with us to create more trails on Forest Service lands that can be accessed directly from town, without getting into an automobile to go to a trail head.

Its going to get to a point where they are going to cut thier own throats. In the mean time the only use the "public land" will get is photos and that will probably be taxed too!

I truly love the Crested Butte area its too bad all this nonesense jacks it up !

Plan #3 is the worst by far, it closes all the single track dirtbike trails around Pitkin and Napoleon Pass in addition to all the other roads that the other plans close.

Does the NF have administrative roads now or is this something new?
Just wondering how they work for a landowner.

#3 has all the support around here, those that do support it don't ride in pitkin as long as they get what they want they don't care who else it effects.

that is the problem everyone only focuses on the areas they frequent and that is why you have write a response regarding each and ever trail you want to comment on

This isn't the only place that the government has decided to shut down.

Idaho just took a big hit in the northern half of the state.

They are herding us, if you can't see it you are part of the problem present company excluded ;)

Yes that is a good term hearding and it's working all over the west closing more and more and putting us in smaller and smaller areas and it's not stopping. We HAVE seen the best of times here in this country. i'm not chicken little. But it's not hard at all to see what is coming. whats amazing to me is that it is happening over a long period of time with different generations, like it was planned out long ago. Yep were like so many cattle (MMM soilent green protien crackers )

Put my 2 cents worth in. Every little bit will help right? I lived there for 2 two years and imo is the best summer and winter riding in the state. I guess the next thing is to take away snowmobiling too.:mad:
