We have lost another $600 tire. we are waiting on money from CSA but until then we are not going to be grooming.

Unless

we get 20-30 new members and someone generous steps up and donates some money too the club.

I would like too thank..
CB Rob for buying a tire and hope that the club can repay him

how about setting up some kind of paypal account?

I would gladly throw a few bucks in your direction if it was as easy as point and click.

I haven't gotten down that way this year...too much great snow at the usual haunts;) but doesn't mean I can't contribute!

Im sure a few of the guys coming down for the mini forum ride could scounge up a few bucks

I think there are some folks who are willing to throw in, but what makes a tire cost $600.00 ? Are these Formula I tires?

MD.

Sno cats are special just like sleds are.

the tires that are on them from the factory are tube lined. the tires get hot specially when running them for 6-8hrs on already groomed trails with little fresh snow pouring into the track too cool the tires. After a while the tires and tubes break down, weather, go flat, blow up ect.

Once a tire goes the track starts to eat the wheel if you are 15 miles from parking lot and you can bet the tire will be gone wheel will be useless. It is 400 bucks for a new tire wheel and inner tube. for another 150 we can put a purma groomer (hard solid rubber wheel) that will last 10x longer than another standard wheel. These things are only available from Prinoth in GJ. There cost is $550 plus tax. We are walking out the door with them right at 600 a piece.

We have only three more of these things to blow and replace before this become a mute point.

ttt

Come on, I know a lot of you guys ride this area.:face-icon-small-hap

My thoughts exactly

out of hundreds of riders in gunnison county, how many of them help out by simply joining the club.

I being secretary, just off the top of my head i know of about 30 guys that have joined or re-up'd this yr.

Maybe we are doing something wrong here, maybe the grooming sucks maybe they don't want the trails groomed.

No doubt those specialty parts are going to be a fortune.

The methods used to solicit memberships and funding have not worked very well. Would you agree. There has got to be a better way. I dont see any Point of Sale info for snotrackers around the county. What sort of community activities does Snotrackers participate in. The Paypal idea is an excellent one.

Its easy to be an armchair QB. I hope Greg can bring some fresh ideas. I think very well of you, Rob and Turbo. My comment in no way are intended to make anyone feel bad.

What about the rental companies that operate out of the Kebler trailhead?

One of the rental companies bought one tire this yr. he has also sent his own guys Greg included to GJ when we have needed a part. He has put 5 6 tanks of fuel in it when he wanted use too groom in addition to our 3 day a week schedule. He could do more but at least this yr for the first time in 5-6yrs he is doing anything.

Up until last yr. We hosted and sponsored the sno-X that came to CB every yr. We had memberships table there. Last yr with there being no snow we were unable to have it. This yr Phil Chamberland was not willing to "out of pocket" the $1500 like he had in the past. to get the snoX. the club didn't have the money with purchasing a new cat, so Sno-X fell by the way like everything else does.

IMO Point of sale should be a NO BRAINER buy any ATV/MC/sled you join a club that is what I did. We are aren't selling anything. We are a public service that needs the public to continue. if people want to keep riding in any area they need to join the clubs and help maintain the trails or we are going to lose them. Yes we need a better way to solicit members.

Let me ask you this, when you get too any trail head anywhere do you see a point of sale for any of the other clubs in the area? I don't know, I don't travel much to ride.

I don't mean to bash anyone either. and in no way want my comments to ruffle anyones feathers.

I will have the treasurer check into the pay pal account. We had talked about it once before but haven't had anyone follow through with it.

Update

New tire and wheel on the way. I didn't get the particulars "as to how or who"

all I know is it was bought by someone and TURBO is putting it on now and will be out tonight and Friday night.

Dropping off a check at GasCafe seems, um.... nearly illegal.
PayPal would be ideal.
Or a Club Address/Treasurer to sent to.

MD.

No different then dropping it off to me @ Sunlit, or Adam @ Sunsports

there are people there that all you have too do is ask and they can take the "check" and give it to the treasurer.

Or

Make checks payable to snotrackers and send to

Snotrackers
23501 Hwy 135
Crested Butte Co, 81224

We are a non profit and any donation is taxbeductable
just let us know and we will get the recite to you

Thx for the clarification.
I'll get something heading your way today.

MD.

P.S. - just promise no more *land deals* ala the Washington Gulch *compromise*. ;-)

I am picking on you a little. Kind of killing the messenger. NONPROFIT does not mean you are'nt selling anything. Snotrackers is or should be selling a service. The service Snotrackers provides is a tangable and valuable one. It should be marketed as such. The pubic service point of view only hurts the club. The bathroom near the firestation is a public service. We use those trails daily, as do many tourist. Those trails represent the area's good name.

I have not seen any POS at our trailheads. A sign with an envelope box that says something like "Trail system prouldy mantained by Snotrackers Sledding Club. A 2 dollar contribution is appreciated. Membership is encouraged" Not donation!!!! A donation is an act of kindness. Snotrackers should instill a sense of resposibility in the users of the trail system. Something like that might be a small step in the right direction.

My thoughts and a 1.50 will buy you a cup of coffee

I Dont know of any land deal

it was a FS decision not a snotrackers one

the 3 members of the club at the time thought it was better than an all out ban of snowmobiles which you know they (fs) can do at any time

USFS wasn't trying to ban us - Kieth Bauer was.

The way I see it, we lost Coneys and west side of the road, only motorized users have to register and cary tags (with penalties), and now Jed isn't allowing us to cross his land and posted nasty signs..

The precedent is set - it probably WILL be closed in the next round of *negotiations*. I bow to the wisdom of the ill-negotiated.

Check's in the mail.

;-)

Well Keith Buar can't take a poop without the FS support. USFS, the county, and the public involved in the so called "ill-negotiated" deal are the ones you should direct you anger towards.

If you where not part of the Negotiations then you can not complain.

I doubt seriously that the "snotrackers" had much to do at all with the negotiations. As there where only a handful of members and a handful of members against a bus load of x-skiers it's a no brainier as to which way the negotiations will slant.

Fact is motorize users spend more time arguing about who's sled/bike/rig/trailer/atv is better and who is the better rider, and who has done the craziest $hat.

awhile the anti's and powers to be sit back and watch us self destruct.

just a general observation

see you on the hill

Troy,

You volunteering to head up that POS project?? :face-icon-small-ton

I got my hands full with a newborn and the snocat

We encourage membership, join the snotrackers ($15) also signs you up with CSA ($20.) total single membership ($35)

CSA funds the grooming operations in the Gunnison/crested butte area. CSA was responsible for the 65k equipments grant that helped purchased the cat.

CSA gets over 50% of every membership thats fine it goes to do good things. CSA get 0% of any donations means Gunnison county money stays in Gunnison county.

to date we have preferred donations to membership.

We are trying to get more members and would like any help anyone can give either donation, or join the club and/ or donate your time.

Don't hang the messenger help him :):face-icon-small-hap

AHMEN!!! Man, that's the truth.
...self destructing often involves a lack of interest in Ave safety too.

MD.

Troy - let's talk. Maybe you and I can put together some type of a POS plan. Say a small brochure, and a stand, etc..

1% for "OPENING more SPACE" type of a campaign.
(vs. the current 1% for open space the enviros do)
